Tesla Owners Spot New V4 Superchargers in the Netherlands; Note Longer Cables, Higher Voltage

Tesla is yet to announce when the new Superchargers will be available in the United States.

Tesla has recently launched its V4 Superchargers in the Netherlands, which is said to provide a long-anticipated solution to charging issues for non-Tesla electric car drivers.

Business Insider reports that while Tesla has provided little details on the new station, the Elon Musk-led firm has stated that the chargers will soon welcome all EVs at the new Harderwijk charging station.

Tesla's V4 Superchargers

Tesla has not indicated when the new Superchargers will be available in the United States.

The EV company, however, began opening certain Supercharger stations to non-Tesla EV drivers in the US in February.

Still, several drivers complained that the cables were too short to reach their charging port and that the charging system was not designed for non-Teslas to charge at full speed.

Tech Times reported in July 2022 that the new Tesla Supercharger V4 was revealed on a freshly leaked blueprint. Tesla acknowledged that this future Supercharger V4 is a component of its new station that would be built in Danvers, Massachusetts.

According to the blueprints, the new Tesla Supercharger V4 model has a longer charging cable amid a lack of an inner opening in the actual Supercharger post.

New Supercharger Would Solve Charging Issues

The V4 Superchargers are said to solve the problem of short charging cables as well as non-Tesla EVs not getting a full charge.

Tesla owner Steven Bink revealed on Twitter that the new charger's cables could be more than 9.8 feet long, which will help accommodate the range of charging port locations available to non-Tesla electric car drivers.

Several EV owners have previously parked in varying spots in order to place their charging port just next to a Supercharger.

The company has yet to disclose the planned charging rates for the new Superchargers, although V3 Superchargers are limited to 250 kW, which corresponds to a charge rate of around 1,000 miles per hour.

According to Bink's shared images, the newer Supercharger has the same 250 kW output rate but an increased electrical current.

Increased Charging Speeds

Based on the images shared by the Tesla owner, the V4 Superchargers have received power adjustments that translate to a 30% boost in charging speed.

Teslarati explains that the power boost is due to an increase in amperage from 425 A to 615 A. Despite the higher-rated current, the output power stays constant at 250 kW. This modification might be in preparation for the future shift to 800-volt designs, allowing for quicker charging speeds across numerous car manufacturers.

Bink noted that because he owned a 2018 model, he could not experience a faster charge rate for the revamped station.

Other Tesla owners, like Model S owner Esther Kokkelmans, turned to social media to share photos and videos of the new charging station, including a video of her charging experience.

While it is unknown when the additional Superchargers will be available in the United States, Tesla's expansion of its charging infrastructure might be a huge step forward for electric vehicle adoption.
