Grammarly, a cloud-based writing assistant, has announced the release of its newest generative AI tool, GrammarlyGo, which aims to improve communication by incorporating personal, organizational, and situational context.
Introducing GrammarlyGo
What do these new additions mean? With its inbuilt AI learning capabilities, Grammarly's latest tool can learn from the context of your writing, ensuring that your subsequent compositions are more fluid and natural.
CNET tells us that the new tool will provide suggestions for improving, simplifying, or condensing a message, adjusting the tone for various scenarios, generating outlines or ideas, and offering one-click suggestions for brainstorming sessions or when a user is on writer's block.
From April, the tool will be accessible to most Grammarly users, including Grammarly Premium, Business, Education, and Grammarly for Developers and some Grammarly Free users in select areas.
Why Like Grammar, Context Matters
In a blog post, Grammarly's global head of product, Rahul Roy-Chowdhury, underlined the unfavorable effects of poor communication, which may weaken relationships, hamper company progress, and even result in lost productivity.
Roy-Chowdhury also referenced a Harris Poll research, which found that poor communication costs American businesses up to $1.2 trillion each year, or $12,506 per employee.
With this, he suggested that the use of emerging technologies such as generative AI may help the company's vision of assisting the entire writing process, from conception to comprehension.

More About GrammarlyGo
The tool will aid in producing tailored communication for diverse settings by integrating personal, organizational, and situational contexts, which can help communications sound more professional.
Context matters; the program can distinguish between crafting a casual and formal response if given the necessary data.
Augmented Reality
Although employing the latest innovations in artificial intelligence, the grammar assistant argues that their core principle is to boost human potential rather than restrict personal autonomy.
The company believes that technology should be intended to solve real-world user problems, boost productivity, and foster human connection and belonging.
Grammarly is dedicated to responsible AI development, which they refer to as "augmented intelligence." This approach stresses the application of human knowledge by AI to increase capabilities and enable growth.
Grammarly's commitment to augmented intelligence emphasizes the value of technology that empowers and supports humans rather than replacing them.
Generative AI
Grammarly is the most recent tech company to launch an AI tool, following the release of OpenAI's ChatGPT at the end of 2022.
Microsoft, Google, and Meta have also introduced AI chatbot tools that can produce human-like responses and ideas. But these tools do not appear to consider the context when generating material unless given pinpoint, accurate prompts.
According to CNET, GrammarlyGo's capacity to comprehend context and tone suggests that this AI tool is not just a generative AI but also a very basic contextual AI.
Generative AI is a term that applies to any AI that may be used to generate text, images, video, audio, and code. Sam Altman of OpenAI has an unusual take on the word.
"generative AI" is IMO a dumb term and i hope it doesn't stick," the CEO wrote on Twitter.
