Apple has confirmed that the next software update for its mobile operating system iOS 7 will be more stable.
The technology giant had announced iOS 7 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2013 and had released the mobile operating system in September 2013. By December 2013, the adoption rate of the software was about 75 percent, which means that every three out of four iDevices were running iOS 7.
However, customers who have downloaded iOS 7 on their iDevices have complained that their handsets crash for no apparent reason after installing the latest operating system. The bug in iOS 7 makes an iPhone occasionally soft reboot itself, which can interrupt users for around 30 seconds to a minute.
"Ever since I installed the new IOS 7 operating system the day it premiered, not only do I have battery issues in which it drains quickly (seems to be a common occurrence) but now if I am using the phone (app, imsg, etc) when it gets down to about 30%, sometimes 23% the phone completely shuts off as if it was at 0% battery life," complained a user on Apple Support Communities.
"I have the same issue after upgrading to iOS 7. I have just upgraded to 7.0.4, so hopefully, that will resolve the problem as stated in a separate post. My phone is also just over a year old and dies between 20 and 30% left. Apple's QoS has definitely 'failed' of late," said another user on Apple Support Communities.
The home screen crash issue is not just limited to iPhones but also to iPads and iPods running on iOS 7. Apple also seems to be aware of the crash issue and has issued a statement to Mashable that a more stable software update is on its way to iDevices.
"We have a fix in an upcoming software update for a bug that can occasionally cause a home screen crash," Trudy Muller, an Apple spokesperson, told Mashable.
The software update to fix the issue is rumored to come in iOS 7.1, which is currently in its fourth beta with developers. Speculations also suggest that iOS 7.1 software update will also bring along minor UI and design changes.
Apple has not yet announced the release date for iOS 7.1; however, customers who are affected by the issue will hope that the company releases a fix as soon as possible.
