A startup company, Figure, has revealed images of its first humanoid robot, as reported by TechCrunch. Since 2022, the company's existence has been known.
Figure is investing a lot of time and money to build a general-purpose bipedal humanoid robot. To do this, the company has gathered a 40-person staff that all came from well-known companies, such as Tesla, Apple SPG, etc.
The Humanoid
The alpha build of the robot has been completed in December 2022 and is currently being test in their Sunnyvale offices. It appears that the humanoid robot looks similar to Tesla's Optimus.
Currently, Figure is working on their second-get humanoid robot that will have all the features necessary to conduct commercial operations.
Now, the robot can do manual labor tasks, such as those in warehouse, fulfillment, logistics, manufacturing, and retail aspects. Figure's robot will focus on providing assistance for a variety of tasks, such as stocking shelves, loading and unloading boxes, and helping with customer service. It will also have the ability to recognize and respond to customer needs. The robot will be able to move and interact with people in a natural and intuitive way.
It's not clear whether the company plans to take a hardware as platform approach.
