Xiaomi has recently announced the Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, according to Mashable.
The Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition
This marks the first augmented reality headset from the brand. It is equipped with a pair of MicroOLED displays, which have retina-level displays within an industry-leading pixel-per-degree density of 58.
The AR glasses are powered by a Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 chip with gesture control. Users can operate the AR glasses by waving their fingers in front of their faces.
The glasses still look like regular glasses, but it is constructed with a magnesium-lithium alloy structure with 128-gram carbon fiber. It isn't what can be considered lightweight glasses, and they seem to be big on the face but slightly smaller than most VR headsets today.
To use the Xiaomi AR glasses, pair it with a Xiaomi 13 phone or another Snapdragon Spaces-ready device.
One of the big selling points of AR glasses is that it is wireless with a self-developed silicon-oxygen anode battery. Details about its battery life are still unknown.
How It Applies to Real Life
The AR glasses may use the glasses to select and open apps, swipe through pages, and exit apps without the use of a smartphone. Still, the AR glasses may be paired with a smartphone and used to control the glasses instead of relying on gestures alone.
Users can watch TikTok and YouTube videos, in which the glasses will be turned into some sort of a portable cinema. It can also control smart home devices.
There are no details yet about the availability and price of the Xiaomi AR glasses.
AR Glasses Today
Today, there are a few different types of AR glasses available on the market. Microsoft HoloLens and Magic Leap One are two of the most popular models. The HoloLens is a self-contained holographic computer that enables users to interact with digital 3D content and holograms in the real world. The Magic Leap One is a mixed-reality headset with a built-in digital light-field display and six degrees of freedom tracking.
Other AR glasses, such as Vuzix Blade, ODG R-8, and Epson Moverio BT-300FPV, are also available. These glasses offer virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality capabilities. They can be used for gaming, entertainment, and professional applications.
In addition, many companies are developing AR glasses, such as Apple, Google, and Facebook. These companies will likely release their own AR glasses in the future.
