When "Hogwarts Legacy" was first released, it was met with mixed perceptions from the public with those enjoying the game, and some saying that it lacked many elements as an AAA-rated title.
Still, it is a massive win for Warner Bros. Discovery, as it already announced that this game would be a franchise, suggesting that there may be sequels following this release in the future.
Moreover, it also celebrates the game's success upon its release, with WB Games claiming that it is the "biggest launch" in the studio's history, shattering expectations and previous records.
'Hogwarts Legacy' to Bring Sequels to its Franchise Soon
According to ComicBook Gaming, WB Games confirmed that it intends to make "Hogwarts Legacy" a gaming franchise, which heavily leans toward sequel games in the future.
It is unknown what are the plans of the company for future titles, as well as the new story it would follow, or should it continue what the current game brought for gamers and Wizarding World fans.
Warner Bros. Discovery announced via its earnings call earlier that it is expanding its gaming franchises to the world, and among those that were mentioned was "Mortal Kombat 12."
WB Games' Biggest Launch in History is 'Hogwarts Legacy'
In a press release by WB Games, the company said that "Hogwarts Legacy" sold as much as 12 million copies, amounting to $850 million on the debut of the game. Considering it is only for the current-gen platforms in the first two weeks of the game's launch.
David Haddad, Presiden, Warner Bros. Games, said "Our development team at Avalanche delivered an amazing, high-quality Wizarding World experience that truly fulfills the fan fantasy of life at Hogwarts and our publishing teams have executed a globally impactful launch campaign."
'Hogwarts Legacy' is for the Wizarding World Fans
Following significant hype for the game, "Hogwarts Legacy" faced challenges before its 2023 launch, since its 2020 announcement from Warner Bros. The team shared their enthusiasm for featuring an open-world role-playing game where gamers get to dictate how their character's story will flow, set in the 1800s Hogwarts, in its early days.
There are not many RPG and open-world "Harry Potter" franchise-based games available, apart from the "LEGO Harry Potter" games, and the famed AR game called "Harry Potter: Wizards Unite."
Of course, there were significant delays that fell upon "Hogwarts Legacy" as it was supposedly dropping by late 2021, which then adjusted to 2022, and finally seeing its release this year only.
PS5, Xbox Series S, and X, and PC gamers already had the chance to play the game early when it dropped last February 10, and the team managed to rack up as much as $850 million in sales globally. Older platforms like the PS4 and Xbox One will get the game by April 4, with the latest being Nintendo Switch which will receive the game by July 25.
After this, players will see another waiting game for a sequel to the franchise, as hinted at by WB Games on its release.
