Amazon Web Services is the biggest cloud computing provider in the US. On Tuesday, the company announced that it is collaborating with New York-based company Hugging Face, which is a software development hub where developers share open-source code and models.
Hugging Face Partnership
To make artificial intelligence accessible in its operations, Amazon is expanding its partnership with startup company Hugging Face Inc., in an effort to keep up with the market's increasing reliance on AI.
Hugging Face is a developing rival of OpenAI's ChatGPT. According to the released statement, AWS will be making Hugging Face's products, including a language generation tool that will be available to cloud customers to build blocks of their own applications.
Chief Executive Officer Clem Delangue stated that while the deal is not exclusive, they are working closely with AWS to make it easy for developers on taking code from the site and run it on the AWS cloud.
"For this product collaboration, we're dedicating significant engineering resources to build our shared products," he added.
Reuters reported that AWS already offers tools to help developers create software based on AI, like proprietary computing chips for raining AI algorithms on huge data but at a lower cost than competitors in the market.
Amazon's Cloud Unit Vice President of Database, Analytics, and Machine Learning Swami Sivasubramanian stated that Hugging Face will then build the next version of that language model on AWS called Bloom.
This model competes in size and scope with OpenAI's ChatGPt, backed by Microsoft Corp.
Bloom will be run on Trainium, which is a proprietary artificial intelligence chip made by AWS. Sibasubramanian believes that this can help developers save money and time as AI takes up more computing power.
This partnership ensures developers have access to their silicon and networking innovations.

Aside from Hugging Face, Bloomberg reported that AWS already has partnerships with AI companies, including Stability AI and AI21 Labs. Both companies offer rival products from OpenAI, like the image-generator Dall-E and the language model Jurrasic.
"It should not be about just one model that is going to rule the world. You want developers to have a broad range." Sivasubramanian added.
Cloud Providers Working on AI
The partnership of AWS and Hugging Face comes after other cloud providers in the market announced that they are working on a generative AI.
Just last month, Microsoft Corp. announced that they will be investing in ChatGPT maker OpenAI for over $10 billion. The company will use the technology for Bing search.
Meanwhile, Alphabet's Google invested $400 million in Anthropic just this month. The company is reported to be one of OpenAI's rivals in the market.
