Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 6 have joined the list of LineageOS 20-supported Android devices.
The OnePlus 9R and Sony Xperia 5 III also recently gained the support of the popular third-party Android ROM.
Google Pixel 7 Gains LineageOS 20 Support
As per a news story by 9to5 Google, LineageOS 20, the latest version of the third-party Android ROM, now supports the Tensor-powered devices of Google, including the Pixel 7 series.
Previously, the new major update of LineageOS could only support up until the Pixel 4. But this time, the Android ROM has finally expanded its supported devices to more phones, such as the latest Pixel flagship.
9to5 Google explains that the culprit for the lack of support for newer Pixel mobile devices might be none other than the new in-house Tensor chip, which powers the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 7 lineup.
Previous Pixel phones, including the Pixel 4 still featured the widely used Snapdragon chipset of Qualcomm. So supporting these much older devices might be faster as more phones have similar processors.
However, the long wait is now over. LineageOS seems to have figured out how to support Tensor chip-powered phones.
And as such, Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro users can now get their hands on the new major version of the LineageOS, along with older devices like the Pixel 4.
LineageOS 20 Now Supports Google Pixel 6
It is worth noting that Google introduced its new in-house Tensor chip on the Pixel 6 lineup. Later on, the Pixel 7 went on to offer a second-generation offering, aptly known as Tensor G2.
Given that both phones run on Tensor chips, LineageOS 20 also expands its support for the entire Pixel 6 series. It includes the two flagship devices, the entry-level Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro.
On top of these two, the budget-friendly Pixel 6a also gained support for the ever-popular Android ROM.
OnePlus 9R and Sony Xperia 5 II Gains Support Too
The support also expands to other Android flagship devices apart from the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7.
If you are a OnePlus 9R user, you may now get your hands on the latest LineageOS update, according to XDA Developers.
Not to mention that the Sony Xperia 5 II and the Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2018) also join the growing list of supported devices.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 users can now install the latest version of the Android ROM as well.
