AI Photo Apps Continue To Fall In Popularity Amid ChatGPT's Emergence

Consumer spending on AI photo apps is gradually falling.

When ChatGPT came out, many companies wanted to rival its features. Because of this, Google and Microsoft released their own AI apps that can compete against this controversial software.

The popularity of AI apps does not mean that all AI-powered apps will receive the same treatment as ChatGPT. Unfortunately, photo apps are reportedly dropping in usage.

In a report by TechCrunch via Apptopia, some of the most used AI photo apps last year are slowly falling popularity.

The likes of Lensa AI, Meitu, New Profile Pic Avatar Maker, Voila AI Artist, Facetune, Prequel, Gradient, Dawn AI, Wonder, Voi, FacePlay, Aiby, FaceApp, Pixelup, Remini, and Fotor have shown impressive download records in December 2022.

Apptopia said that these apps managed to earn $1.8 million daily through the user's in-app purchases. Consumer spending on these apps was high at that time.

Furthermore, the analytics firm shared that during the time of their fame, the abovementioned apps hit over 4 million daily downloads on several platforms.

While they seem to display good performance during the said month, the lower revenue that they reached was $0.37 million which happened on November 11, 2022.

Meanwhile, Apptopia saw that after a week, the apps posted 0.84 million daily downloads, the lowest so far.

On Valentine's Day, the AI photo apps recorded roughly 952,000 combined downloads. Consumer spending of users seems to plunge after reaching just around $507,000.

AI Photo Apps Have Faded Quickly

According to Adam Blacker of Apptopia, the downfall trend of photo apps might mean that "another fad comes and goes." This suggests that there might be a more resounding topic that people want to talk about at the moment.

It may have been derived from several factors including the user's perceptions of them. As such, even before they became known to the public, some users already had bad opinions of them.

The most common problem that they are facing includes the widespread sexism that these AI photo apps can't seem to control. Apparently, this could have driven fewer people to use them more often.

ChatGPT and other AI-powered apps are the most usual things we can see in several news headlines. While it indicates that they are now more popular than before, it does not mean that it's all about praise for them.

Some stories on the internet are all about their mistakes. This only shows that these chatbots are still far from perfect. So that leaves us thinking that humans are not replaceable by machines.

In other news, Yahoo reports that NoiseGPT is a special AI app where a text can transform into the voice of a celebrity.

Some people think that this app can potentially trigger mistrust in other users given how advanced the deep fakes are when it comes to this technology.
