Before you remove your passwords, you need to consider your personal technology. For example, if you are using a Windows computer and iPhone, you can easily go passwordless.

This is because you can rely on Microsoft Hello; a technology that uses biometrics for identity verification.

If you are using Windows and Android devices, then the best option would be to use a third-party password manager and leverage Microsoft Hello.

Once you identify your personal technology, you can now start preparing for passwordless online activities.

What is Passwordless Method?

MakeUseOf explained different types of passwordless verifications. These include the following:

One-Time Passwords (OTP): These are codes that work like passwords. However, not one OTP is similar to the other.

  • Hardware Keys: These rely on physical devices, such as USB drives, to verify the user.
  • Biometrics: Biometrics are among the most popular passwordless tech. They rely on the users' fingerprints and facial recognition.
  • Magic Links: These are single-use links that rely on a verification token to open an online account.

Going passwordless has its pros and cons. For example, passwordless methods can protect people who tend to reuse their passwords on multiple websites.

However, there are also some instances when hackers can steal your OTPs and other passwordless keys.
