Sonos Chief Executive Officer, Patrick Spence, slams other tech giants with audio products, such as Google, Amazon, and Apple, for their audio offerings.
The big boss of Sonos made such remarks during the recent first-quarter earnings call for 2023.
Sonos CEO Slams Tech Giants Like Google, Apple, Amazon
As per a recent report by The Verge, Spence notes that had no serious competition in the last quarter, which also covered the holiday season. It comes as giant firms like Google and Amazon have not been so active with their audio offerings.
The tech news outlet notes that Google is laser-focused on its Pixel hardware offering these days. Well, besides its AI ambitions to compete with the partnership between the Microsoft and OpenAI.
The last time that the search engine giant released an audio product was when it launched Nest Audio back in 2020.
On the other hand, the giant online retailer Amazon, which offers smart speakers, is reportedly reviewing the performance of its Alexa and Echo products.
Meanwhile, although Apple debuted the all-new second-generation HomePod, it launched right after the holiday season.
And as such, the chief executive of Sonos says that "the big tech players" like Apple and Google," we just [have not] seen them active."
The big boss of Sonos went on to claim that these giant firms failed to do "anything interesting" in the world of audio products.
But despite that, Spence states that they "never want to get overconfident in these things."
Yet, the Sonos CEO says that seeing the new offering of Apple, he "could not be more excited or confident" for the upcoming products of his audio firm.
Future Sonos Speakers: Era Lineup and Next-Generation Move?
The audio firm announced that it plans to introduce its new speaker sometime in 2023.
Sonos is reportedly working on two new high-end speakers, the Era 300 and the Era 100.
What Hifi note that the rumored new Era lineup likely flaunts Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos support.
On top of these new features, the new higher-end offerings reportedly come with Wifi 6 and Bluetooth support right off the bat. If ever this holds true, What Hifi notes that it would be a first for Sonos speakers.
Besides the Era lineup, The Verge believes that the audio tech firm is also working on the second-generation Sonos Move, its portable speaker. However, Sonos has yet to confirm these potentially upcoming speakers.
