Apple iPhone Ultra is likely seeing the light of day next year or in 2024, in time for the potential release of the iPhone 16 series.
The new high-end variant reportedly debuts along with the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max options. So in the not-so-distant future, the "Pro Max" might no longer be the top-of-the-line offering.
Apple iPhone Ultra 2024 Release
As per a recent report by The Verge, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman disclosed that Apple is planning to release a new high-end iPhone option, aptly called the "Ultra."
And the Cupertino-based tech giant is looking to place it on top of the current Pro offerings, the iPhone Pro and the iPhone Pro Max.
Gurman believes that Apple is set to introduce this new top-of-the-line iPhone sometime in 2024, as it unveils its iPhone 16 series.
Rumor has it that the renowned tech giant is ditching the iPhone Plus variant due to its concerning sales for the iPhone 14 series. Given that, the 2024 lineup might gain a new "Ultra" option, while bidding farewell to the "Plus" option.
However, it remains to be seen if Apple plans to kill the "Plus" variant as early as the iPhone 15 series, which debuts this 2023.
XDA Developers notes in its new story that previous reports predicted that the new "Ultra" variant is set to replace the "Pro Max" option, seemingly a mere rebrand.
But this time, Gurman is saying that the "Ultra" is joining the lineup, alongside the current high-end options, the "Pro" and "Pro Max."
The Bloomberg journalist believes this new higher-end option might see the shimmer of the spotlight "potentially in time for the 2024 iPhone release."
What to Expect from the 'Ultra' Variant?
With all that said, what could the new iPhone Ultra bring to the table?
First off, XDA Developers suggest that the higher-end option could likely sport a heftier price tag.
It looks like the "UItra" will be more costly than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which now sells for $1,600 for its highest storage option of 1 terabyte (TB).
But with that more expensive pricing, Gurman believes that Apple plans to bring "a faster chip," "camera improvements," and a "larger display."
The Verge adds that the new high-end iPhone might scrap the charging port altogether. And instead, it might exclusively come with wireless charging support.
