Defeat Giovanni & Save Shadow Registeel: The Ultimate Guide to Ace Pokémon Go's Rocket Takeover Event

Ace Pokémon Go's Rocket Takeover event!

Team GO Rocket has once again taken over Pokémon GO, and this time they have Shadow Registeel in their grasp. This newest event makes for more exciting Pokemon quests, but we are told facing some opponents will not be easy.

In this article, we will talk about the easiest ways to ace Pokémon Go's Rocket Takeover event, with tips first shared by The Sun.

Pokémon Go's Rocket Takeover Event

From Feb. 1, at 12:00 a.m. to Feb. 5, at 11:59 p.m. PST, trainers can complete a Special Research story to obtain a Super Rocket Radar and defeat Giovanni to save Shadow Registeel. The Special Research story will be available until the end of the season on Mar. 1, at 10:00 a.m. local time.

Pokemon.com tells us that Field Research tasks will award Mysterious Components during the takeover, providing an excellent opportunity to build Rocket Radars and take on the Team GO Rocket Leaders.

Team GO Rocket Grunts will also appear more often at PokéStops and in balloons but be prepared for a more difficult challenge as they will be using an entirely new roster of Shadow Pokémon, including Shadow Alolan Vulpix, Shadow Spoink, Shadow Blitzle, and Shadow Joltik.

Trainers can use a Charged TM to help forget the Charged Attack Frustration to defeat Team GO Rocket and their Shadow Pokémon.

Trainers could also obtain 12 km Eggs as a reward for defeating the Team GO Rocket Leaders, which have a chance of hatching the following Pokémon: Larvitar, Absol, Skorupi, Sandile, Scraggy, Pawniard, Vullaby, Deino, Pancham, Skrelp, and Salandit.

Pokémon Go: Defeat Giovanni

Are you up for the ultimate challenge in Pokémon Go? The Sun says that if you want to face Team Rocket boss Giovanni, you must defeat 18 Rocket grunts and leaders Arlo, Sierra, and Clive.

This can be lengthy, but gathering Rocket Radar through research tasks can help. When the time comes to face Giovanni, you will want to be fully prepared.

Giovanni always starts with Persian, his signature Pokémon. It has a number of Normal and Dark moves, such as Scratch, Foul Play, Play Rough, and Power Gem. Fighting types are your best bet against Persian. If Persian has Play Rough, you should bring a dual-type that resists Fairy, such as Lucario or Buzzwole.

Giovanni will have three Pokémon to choose from after Persian: Cloyster, Nidoking, and Garchomp. Cloyster only has Water and Ice-type attacks, so Fighting-types, such as Lucario and Raikou, are the best counters.

Nidoking has a diverse move set, but Ground-types such as Swampert or Mamoswine will cover all bases. Garchomp is powerful but vulnerable to Ice-type attacks, making Weavile or Articuno excellent choices.

Ultimately, Shadow Registeel will always be Giovanni's final Pokémon. Because it has mostly Steel- and Fighting-type attacks, Fighting-types are the best counter. Both Lucario and Machamp are viable options, but be cautious if Registeel has Fire Blast.
