"Apex Legends Mobile" is shutting this May, its developer Respawn Entertainment announced.
Given this, is Electronic Arts, EA, the publisher of the mobile shooter game, giving away refunds?
'Apex Legends Mobile' Shut Down
EA released "Apex Legends Mobile" last May 17, and less than a year since its debut, the mobile game is shutting down. Players of the game still have a few months to enjoy it.
On top of that, another EA game, "Battlefield Mobile," is shutting down, along with the studio working behind it, Industrial Toys.
As per a report by IGN, the publisher of "Apex Legends Mobile" announced that it will be killing the mobile shooter game on May 1, 2023.
EA disclosed that "after months of working with our development partner, we have made the mutual decision to sunset the mobile game." Thus, the "Apex Legends Mobile" is shutting down this year.
The giant game publisher notes that the mobile version of its shooter game actually had a strong start. But despite that, the firm says that "the ongoing experience was not going to meet the expectations of our players."
The Verge notes in its report that EA worked with Respawn and Lightspeed & Quantum Studios, which Chinese tech giant Tencent owns, to develop the mobile version of the popular shooter game.
It is worth noting that the Tencent-owned firm is also the developer of PUBG Mobile.
EA is Pulling Out 'Apex Legends Mobile' from App Stores
Although the mobile game is shutting down on May 1, EA has already started gearing up for its demise.
The gaming firm plans to pull out the shooter title from app stores like Google Play Store and Apple App Store ahead of its shutdown.
Besides that, The Verge reports that "Apex Legends Mobile" players could no longer buy in-game items using real money. So they can only use whatever is left in the accounts if they want to get a hold of items like skins.
Is EA Giving Away Refunds?
Given that "Apex Legends Mobile" is bidding farewell in a few months, its players are now wondering if there would be any refunds. However, they might be disappointed.
The Verge pointed out that EA would not issue any refunds to its players who have spent real money on the game.
The gaming firm says that it is in line with the terms of the EA User Agreement, which players supposedly have to agree to before playing the game.
