Dog Swallows AirTag: CR2032 Battery Could Poison Pet If Chewed

A dog swallowed an AirTag, here's what happened.

The release of the Apple Airtag in April 2021 was met with both excitement and concern. This small, round device was designed to help users easily locate lost items, and it quickly became popular among users.

AirTags are Placed on a Dog's Collar to Make It Easy for Owners to Track People's Pets

The device's small size quickly became a problem when it was found that the Airtag could be swallowed by kids and pets, which raised safety concerns among users. At 31.9 mm in diameter, 8.0 mm in thickness, and 11 grams in weight, the Airtag is small enough to be attached to a dog's collar, making it easy to track the people's pets.

However, the same small size that makes it easy to wear also makes it a choking hazard for children and pets. According to the story by Giz China, in recent months, there have been several incidents of dogs swallowing AirTags, which have caused concern among pet owners.

Dog Owner was Not Able to Find the AirTag He Attached to His Dog's Collar

According to MacRumors, dog owner Colin Mortimer had a close call with his pet when he found that the Airtag attached to the dog's collar was missing. He used the Find My app to track and play the sound of the Airtag, only to discover that the sound was coming from the dog's stomach.

The news was also reported by My Drivers which also showed the images of the AirTag inside the dog's stomach and when it was removed.

AirTag Uses a CR2032 Battery Which Could Poison Pets

Another dog was sent to the emergency room after swallowing an Airtag, but thankfully, the dog escaped any serious danger. Apple has stated that it does not recommend using the Airtag to track children or pets, as the device is designed to track objects rather than creatures.

Additionally, the Airtag contains a CR2032 battery, which can cause harm to a pet's digestive system if chewed or swallowed. Despite these concerns, some users have claimed that the Airtag is too small and that a larger size would discourage pets from swallowing them.

The AirTag's Small Size Makes It Easy for Users to Wear

Some users have also called for Apple to make the Airtag less attractive to children and pets, but it is unclear how much this would actually prevent children and pets from swallowing the device. In conclusion, the Apple Airtag is a useful tool for finding lost items, but its small size and potential dangers to children and pets cannot be ignored.

If owners have an Airtag, it is important to keep it out of the reach of kids and pets to prevent any potential dangers. While the Airtag's small size makes it easy to wear, it also makes it a choking hazard and should be used with caution.
