Naughty Dog may not be continuing its development of "The Last of Us Part III," or the sequel game to the 2020-released title that continued the story of Joel and Ellie, as they venture into a post-apocalyptic world. This news came from a recent interview with Neil Druckmann, best known for being the game's creator and showrunner.
Despite refuting the third sequel game, the creator affirmed that it is focused on creating the "TLOU" spin-off that would center on a multiplayer title based on the franchise.
'The Last Of Us Part III' May Not Continue Says Creator
According to a BuzzFeed interview with creator Neil Druckmann when asked about the game's future, he answered "Our process is the same thing we did when we did Part 2, which is if we can come up with a compelling story that has this universal message and statement about love - just like the first and second game did - then we will tell that story."
Druckmann said that it would depend on the stories that he and the team will come up with, especially as they need to create one that will have the same effect as the last games.
"If we can't come up with something, we have a very strong ending with Part 2 and that will be the end," he added.
'TLOU' Multiplayer Spin-off Coming Soon
ComicBook Gaming reported that the confirmed project from Naughty Dog now is "The Last of Us" multiplayer spin-off, and even in his latest interview, Druckmann reinforced the game's development. In this spin-off, the creator teased that there will be another story from a different city.
However, in this version, it will allow the gamer to enter the "TLOU" world with their friend, and explore the harsh reality there is in a zombie-filled world.
'The Last of Us' Franchise
One of the latest releases from the TLOU franchise is the latest same-titled television series that is currently streaming on a per-episode basis on HBO Max. It brings all the elements present in the game, including the main characters like Joel-played by Pedro Pascal, Ellie-portrayed by Bella Ramsey, and many more names.
Druckmann is also a showrunner for the HBO television series and provided his insights and control of the story. However, the Naughty Dog team is not much into the development of a new game, and its current focus revolves around the PS5 remake of the original release from 2013, featuring smarter AI, better graphics, and an overall new experience.
Unfortunately for the fans of the series, there is a low chance for Naughty Dog to develop the third game to complete a trilogy, with a less likely chance to learn more about what happens to Ellie after Part 2's events.
This does not mean that "The Last of Us" franchise is closing the book on the game releasing, as the multiplayer spin-off is still something to look forward to from Druckmann and the team.
