Confirmed. Donald Trump's Facebook returns. Meta announced it on Wednesday, Jan. 25.
"We will be ending the suspension of Mr. Trump's Facebook and Instagram accounts in the coming weeks," said the giant tech firm.
With this decision, Meta ended the former U.S. president's two-year suspension on Instagram and Facebook.
Meta explained that they banned Trump because of his "praise" for those involved in the violence at the Capitol back in 2021.
The company added that suspension against him was a rare decision taken in extraordinary circumstances.
Donald Trump's Facebook Return
According to the Evening Standard's latest report, Trump's return on Facebook and Instagram is expected to happen in June.
This will greatly help the former POTUS since his exclusivity deal with Truth Social-a social media site created by the Trump Media and Technology Group-will also expire on that date.
Via its official press release, Meta said that it is important for the public to hear what the politicians are saying, the good and the bad statements.
But, the tech firm said that they would take action if there's a clear risk of real-world harm.
This means that there's a chance that Trump could be banned again if his posts ever negatively affect the public.
Banning Trump Again Would be Complicated
Based on Meta's policy, there's a chance that Trump could be banned from Facebook and Instagram again.
But, before that happens, Trump must show very horrifying behavior on the platforms.
Since this is the case, Meta explained that there are other measures that they will use to ensure that the public is safe from politicians' negative posts.
These include preventing their content from being shared to people's feeds. This means that the harmful posts Trump would only be visible on his profile.
