Elon Musk, Twitter's Chief Twit, changed his name to "Mr. Tweet" on the platform after a lawyer accidentally called him by that nickname.
And now, Musk says that Twitter is preventing him from changing his name back.
Elon Musk's Twitter Name Changed to 'Mr. Tweet'
The billionaire entrepreneur, Musk, recently changed his Twitter name to "Mr. Tweet" according to a report by Business Insider. And until now, his account still holds the same name.
The name change came after a lawyer, who represents a group of shareholders suing the billionaire, referred to him as "Mr. Tweet" during a trial.
Atty. Nicholas Porritt that the accidental nickname was a mere "Freudian slip." However, Musk says in jest that his new moniker was "probably an accurate description."
It is worth noting that the tech entrepreneur, who owns Tesla and SpaceX, was extremely active on Twitter even before he became the Chief Twit. The billionaire posts updates about his tech firms on the social media giant. He also blurts out his hot takes on politics and other topics on the service.
Musk Can't Change His Name Back?
And now, the Twitter boss could not change back his name, Fox Business News reports.
Musk tweeted that "Twitter won't let me change it back" after changing his name to "Mr. Tweet" on the platform.
CNET notes in its report that the Musk-owned social media service started preventing verified users from changing their names back in November 2022. Some users reported that they could no longer change their names.
It comes after Twitter offered the blue check mark to its paying subscribers, which ended up with flooding impersonations on the platform. Some users even attempted to impersonate no less than Musk himself.
And as such, the social network prevents verified and Twitter Blue users from changing their names repeatedly. It looks like the rule also applies to the Chief Twit, as Musk admits that he could not change his name back.
With that, Musk will have to wait for a while before he can revert his Twitter name back to Elon Musk. For now, his "Mr. Tweet" branding on the social network remains. His username, however, is still @elonmusk.
Some might be wondering why Musk did not lose the blue checkmark on his account even if he changed his name. It comes as his account is a legacy verified account.
On the other hand, those with blue check marks due to Twitter Blue subscription will lose it when they revise their names.
