Elon Musk: Tesla Cybertruck EV Mass Production is Pushed to 2024

But the EV maker says that production is still on track.

The Tesla Cybertruck all-electric pickup truck will not be hitting mass production until 2024, Elon Musk announced during an earnings call with investors.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the electric vehicle (EV) maker admits that the full volume production of the Cybertruck has been pushed to 2024.

Elon Musk Says Tesla Cybertruck EV Mass Production to Start in 2024

A news story by The Verge reports that the big boss of Tesla announced that the mass production of the Cybertruck will not begin until 2024.

Despite that, Musk confirmed that the giant EV maker is on track with the beginning of the Cybertruck production. The billionaire entrepreneur says that manufacturing of the long-delayed electric pickup would kick off "sometime this summer."

The Tesla boss revealed the timeline in response to the questions during the call, asking if the automaker would meet its mid-2023 production target.

It is worth noting that the tech giant set this production timeline in the second quarter of last year, according to The Verge. And as such, some are wondering if the EV maker is still on track with this.

After all, the upcoming Cybertruck has long faced delays after several setbacks.

The tech entrepreneur, Musk, introduced the all-electric pickup in 2019. But since then, the production has yet to kick off. The pre-production was supposed to begin in late 2021. Last year, it was pushed back to 2023.

ZDNET notes in its report that Cybertruck is set to debut in a crowded market already due to the delays it faced through the years.

These days, the electric pickup offerings include the Ford F-150 Lightning, the Rivian R1T, and the GMC Hummer. On the other hand, the RAM 1500 EV is beginning production next year.

The Tesla CEO told investors in a recent earnings call that he "always [tries] to downplay the start of production." He adds that "it increases exponentially, but it is very slow at first." That said, he admitted that the full volume production would not happen until 2024.

Cybertruck Production on Track

While mass production would not start this 2023, the giant EV maker says they "remain on track to begin production later this year at Gigafactory Texas."

The carmaker also disclosed that they are working on the next-generation vehicle platform.

Recently, the Chief Designer of the Tesla Cybertruck noted that the design of the pickup truck is already finalized. With that, the much-awaited EV sure looks to be on track to begin its production this year. And later on, mass production is expected to kick off next year.
