Ferrari NV EVs to Feature its Own Signature Engine Noise Soon

Ferrari is adding a unique sound amplification system for its supercar's engine.

Oddo BHF analysts have unveiled in a patent that Ferrari NV plans to add an authentic engine noise for its electric supercar models.

The Italian automaker could amplify the sound from the attached electric motors on the vehicle by adding its own engine roar.

According to a report by Bloomberg on Monday, Jan. 24, the Ferrari patent highlights a "reproduction device for the realization of a sound that can be associated with an electric motor."

Per Oddo BHF, the feature could allow the company to add a more distinctive noise engine that will generate before the car reroutes. The "roar" will exit through the back of the car.

Speaking of the supercars, Ferrari is about to begin production for these units in 2025, the same report says.

It should be noted that the plan for revving up the engine noise for Ferrari supercars was hinted at by Chief Executive Officer Benedettor Vigna back in June 2022 during the company's capital markets day.

According to him, the upcoming feature can be considered one of the "essentials that characterizes a Ferrari."

Since the existing supercars used to boast their own "signature" roar, there's a need for Ferrari to release its own take on the engine noise, Vigna adds.

Ferrari's Electrification of Cars

At present, many luxury car makers are hopping into the trend of creating their own electric cars to keep up with the market.

Since many people are now heavily invested in EVs, car manufacturers should be innovative in presenting what's new and affordable to the public.

Ferrari might have realized that it's about time to jump on the scene and create a "compelling and innovative EV product" that will penetrate the market in 2025.

In its report, Oddo says that the loss of the engine sound can be "somewhat compensated" by a "successful sound-reproducing technology" from Ferrari.

China Boasts its Superfast Electric Supercar

Supercars are often made in Europe and the Americas. However, some overseas brands are slowly catching up with the most popular names in the industry. It's no surprise that even a Chinese automaker BYD has an answer for its foreign counterpart.

According to Carscoops, the YangWang U9 supercar can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just two seconds. While it can be compared to the Aio Hyper SSr, it's still 0.1 seconds slower.

At the moment, BYD has not yet disclosed the power output of the said model, but sources said that it might be equipped with the "Yisifang" tech to make up for its quad motor.

The YangWang U9 will be launched in China at more than $145,340. It's cheaper than the Hyper SSR, which is initially priced at $186,870.
