Apple TV is one of the most famous black box devices available in the market now, especially as it offers different streaming advantages, and it is a huge bummer if the remote faces issues or does not work as it is intended to do. Controlling the television can be done through the iPhone, but it only has limited functions.
Apple TV Remote Fix: Here's How to Make it Work
Apple's support document details several fixes to make the Apple TV remote function again, if it does not do its job of changing the channel, app, turning the volume up or down, and other features available. According to Apple, here are the first three steps should the remote stop working:
- Remove any obstructions to the remote and black box: Stay within 20 feet (about 6 meters) of your Apple TV and move anything that blocks the path between your remote and the front of your Apple TV, television, receiver, and sound bar.
- Recharge your remote's battery: Charge your remote for 30 minutes using a USB-C to USB or Lightning to USB cable and a USB wall charger.
- Turn off your Apple TV: Unplug your Apple TV from the wall power outlet. Wait at least six seconds (best to wait 10 seconds), then plug it back in.
However, if that does not work, you may need to restart or reset your remote's connection to the Apple TV.
- Hold the TV icon and Volume Down button at the same time for about five to 10 seconds.
- Wait for a notification on your TV screen for a "Connection Lost" notice.
- The remote would restart on its own and proceed to pair.
How to Pair Remote to Apple TV:
- Press the Back "<" or "Menu" button, alongside the Volume Up for about five seconds, while standing at least three inches away from the Apple TV.
- Place your remote on top of the black box should Apple ask you to do so.
Alternatively, if all these still do not make the remote work, go to your Apple TV's Settings > Remotes & Devices > Volume Control > TV via IR.
Apple also offers a way to reset the Remote should the Volume Control buttons stop working.
Apple TV
Apple TV devices are massive in the world, as it can transform one's television into a smart one, by only connecting the black box via HDMI connections. Moreover, Apple updates the device to deliver new features and experiences for better entertainment via its offers that do not only rely on the Apple TV+ streaming platform.
When one has difficulty using the remote and does not want to buy a new one, there is a way to still control the black box. It is via the iPhone and only requires to be update to the iOS 16 operating system.
Instead of immediately thinking to buy a new remote for one's Apple TV, it is worth looking at these fixes, and it might be the answer to their problems.
