Pakistan: Notorious 'Bag Gas' Trade Stems from LNG Crisis, Plastic Bags like 'Bombs'

Pakistanis resort to using plastic bags to siphon gas for home cooking.

Pakistan has a notorious "bag gas" trade happening in its country now, and reports say that they are "moving bombs" in the country as people collect LNG from main sources for their home needs. The LNG crisis in the Middle Eastern country has long affected its residents who now go out of their way to get the fire source for cooking.

There is a massive danger to their operations, especially as people put the gas in plastic bags, and these are not the proper equipment as it could result in leakage or an explosion when exposed to heat or the Sun.

The leader of Pakistan's largest religious political party has cast doubt on the Taliban shooting of schoolgirl activist Malala Yousufzai, saying he did not believe she was hit in the head. The 15-year-old narrowly escaped with her life when Taliban gunmen shot her on her school bus last month for daring to campaign for the right of girls to go to school -- something the Islamist militants bitterly oppose. According to a Pakistani broadcast journalist, Ghulam Abbas Shah, people have resorted to siphoning gas from main lines into plastic bags, and transporting them home for their use. This is dubbed as the "bag gas" trade in Pakistan, and as per the journalist's video, people are seen carrying these massive bags filled with gas.

People use gas for home cooking, and people have been doing this for a long time now, due to problems in getting legal connections.

Since 2007, there has been an issue of securing gas connections at home, and this is despite the "huge estimates" of oil and gas in the Karak region.

LNG Crisis in Pakistan

The issue of the liquefied natural gas supplies and connections in Pakistan has gravely affected residents in their daily livelihood and needs. According to Interesting Engineering, there are no proper infrastructures in the region to supply people with their needs, which has led to some citizens resorting to dangerous operations to use for their cooking and other requirements.

Pakistan Crisis

The Middle Eastern country besides Iran is also experiencing massive hardships in different situations in its nation, with the said bag gas trade taking place in its communities. It also saw different issues from several nations spying on its citizen and country, with Prime Minister Imran Khan accusing India of these actions and calls out to the United Nations.

Additionally, there was another tech company that received a lawsuit from Pakistan regarding another spying incident directed at its citizens. The suit allegedly claims that Huawei also had its hands in allowing espionage using its technology on Pakistanis, using stolen technology which the country's IT personnel verified.

Pakistan had many issues in the past and the most recent centers on the gas issues and shortage its citizens are experiencing now and resorting to dangerous feats just to get by in their day-to-day. The bag gas trade is not only dangerous for people transporting plastic bags, but also for those that they pass by or at home, as it could explode unexpectedly.
