Apple has many devoted fans who have been waiting with bated breath for a new Mac Pro offering. Unfortunately, recent rumors have hinted that the device may disappoint users with a lack of the technological advances typically seen with new Apple products.
2019 Mac Pro Model Gets an Update After a Long Time
According to the story by Giz China, the last Mac Pro model update was in 2019, with limited offerings of less than 1,000 units expected in 2022. This may be because recent ARM-based Mac computers have been dominating the market and becoming the new 'it' product.
The buzz around the next model of the Mac Pro line suggested it would have an Apple M2 Extreme chipset featuring 48 CPU cores and 152 GPU cores. However, as noted by IT Home, recent reports from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman have put the kibosh on these rumors.
The Apple Mac Pro Lineup Came in 2006, 2013, and 2019
To make up for the lack of a technological revolution, it has been rumored that Apple will be revamping the design of the Mac Pro to give it a new look. Furthermore, the new Mac Pro is rumored to feature an Apple M2 Ultra processor, as highlighted by Mac Rumors, with a 24-core CPU and 76-core GPU, slightly higher than the 20-core and 60-core GPU found in the Mac Studio.
Especially considering that Apple's previous updates to the Mac Pro lineup came in 2006, 2013, and 2019, respectively, with this potential new device coming out in 2022, some Mac fans are decidedly unsatisfied with the expected lack of innovation and performance.
Apple M2 Extreme 48 CPU Cores and 152 GPU Cores
This processor may replace the previously rumored and canceled Apple M2 Extreme processor featuring 48 CPU cores and 152 GPU cores. It seems that Apple is aiming to compensate for the mild lack of technical prowess with a new design, but fans may feel let down overall.
The inability to expand RAM memory, plus the fact that the main new feature is just a design upgrade, may cause fans to be less than fully satisfied. Apple fans will have to wait longer for the brand's macOS-based powerhouse.

Mac Pro Lineup is Supposed to Offer the Best
The Mac Pro lineup offers the best hardware that can be found in any Apple product, but the company hasn't been showing much love to this department in the past years. Fans have been waiting for a new Mac Pro model but are now informed that the company will only release a thousand units in 2022.
In addition, the new model may still come with subtle design changes to make it different from the 2019 model, as the performance improvement wouldn't be enough. Apple is aware of the lack of upgrades, so the brand aims to attract Mac Pro fans to the new computer with the design.
Whether Apple will use the new Mac Pro to bring everything it can to the table in the performance and design department or if they'll fall flat on their faces with a lackluster product remains to be seen. But as fans wait and see, Apple fans appear to be increasingly impatient with the lack of updates to the Mac Pro lineup.
