Android Users Can Now Link Up to Meta Quest VR Headsets to See their Health Stats

Meta expands its VR headset's capability by bringing health-related features on the platform.

VR headsets are not always all about seeing what lies behind the virtual world. According to the reports, Meta will now focus on delivering health-centered features on the platform so people can see their health status on the go.

The Washington Post found on research from Forrester that one-fourth of American adults showed interest in purchasing Meta Quest VR. Meanwhile, 18% said that they would use it for health-related matters.

The company says that with the emergence of VR fitness across the current devices, it's about time to add it to the Meta Quest.

Meta notes that Android users could soon take advantage of Health Connect Integration to check their heart rate. All they need to do to activate it is to pair their devices with Bluetooth-enabled heart rate monitors.

By linking to the heart rate monitor, you can soon see your heart rate inside an app or game. You can take a sneak peek of your burned calories, as well, here.

At the time, only a few monitors were compatible with this kind of feature, including those from Garmin and Polar.

This potential update allows VR users to sync their workout data through their smartphones. If the company permits this feature, Android users won't be required to open the Quest to see their health stats.

Say Goodbye to the Quest 1 VR Headset

Meta's first-ever VR headset will no longer be usable soon, the company confirmed via an emailed statement to the users.

According to the social media company, the users can still access and use Quest 1. However, with the new announcement, it won't be able to receive any further updates in the future.

With the newly-launched versions of VR headsets at present, Meta has finally put the nail in the coffin for Quest 1.

According to a report by The Verge, the company will no longer add software updates for the Quest Headset. In addition, the firm added that it would ditch some social features attached to it.

Although the Quest 1 VR headset can no longer receive updates, Meta clarifies that the security updates and critical bug fixes will still continue to roll out until 2024.

Meta Could Be Struggling in Updating Quest 1 Features

Since the technology for wearables is quickly evolving, the devices should adapt accordingly to the adjustments when it comes to hardware and software parts.

Because Quest 1 is already an outdated VR headset, Meta might have been experiencing some problems in updating its current features, as Engadget wrote in its report this week.

With that being said, Meta Horizon Home users won't be stripped of the social features beginning on March 5, 2023. There are still two months until you can visit your friend in virtual space.
