Microsoft Surface Duo 3 Reportedly Features a Foldable Screen

Microsoft reportedly scrapped plans to retain the dual-screen design.

Microsoft's Surface Duo 3 might actually get a foldable display, ditching the dual screen.

Given that, the next-generation Surface Duo would likely have a flexible display, much like what we see with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 or the Vivo X Fold.

Microsoft Surface Duo 3 with Foldable Screen?

After a year with the dual-screen display, it looks like Microsoft is moving forward with a foldable screen. As per a report by Windows Central, the Surface Duo 3 might kick off a new foldable design.

The next-generation Duo reportedly features a foldable display instead of the initially planned dual-screen.

The renowned tech firm is now reportedly planning to release the next-generation Android device with a display similar to foldable these days.

Windows Central reports that the Redmond-based tech firm has already scrapped its plans for the Surface Duo, which sports a dual-screen design. And as such, the upcoming foldable is getting a display that actually folds in half.

Microsoft Reportedly Scrapped Dual-Screen Design

According to The Verge, Microsoft reportedly planned on debuting the Surface Duo 3 in late 2023 with a dual-screen design.

In fact, the news outlet notes that Microsoft previously resisted having foldable displays.

The head Applied Sciences Group at Microsoft, Steven Batiche, told The Verge that "it wasn't difficult for us to realize that taking a screen and folding it wasn't the right option for this product." Instead, Batiche says they "wanted glass" for the Surface Duo.

The Microsoft exec explained that "they wanted a glass that wouldn't scratch because we also wanted to give you a pen."

The resistance for foldable displays is initially planned to extend to the Surface Duo 3. But this time, it looks like the tech giant has already scrapped that plan.

The inner display of the Surface Duo 3 reportedly comes with a "true" foldable screen, while the outer display is the typical flat design.

Given that, GSM Arena highlights in its report that the form factor of the upcoming Microsoft Android device would most likely be similar to the Vivo X Fold.

The media outlet further notes that the design could likely push back the debut of the upcoming Surface Duo 3. So instead of seeing the shimmer of the spotlight before 2023 ends, it might take a while before it launches.

Meanwhile, the Microsoft Surface Duo 2 is reportedly out of stock in various retailers like Best Buy and Amazon.
