Hyundai has its version of the famous "crab walk" capabilities of an electric vehicle, first debuted by General Motors' Hummer EV with a massive range of features and functions for its drivers. In the South Korean company, this is called the "e-Corner System," and it essentially delivers the same features with wheelbases that have a massive turning point, for the IONIQ 5 EV.
There are different applications for the crab walk system, as it allows users to immediately swerve from roadblocks better, or fit in a parking slot easier.
Hyundai's IONIQ 5 EV gets the e-Corner System
Hyundai, particularly under its Mobis company, debuted the "e-Corner System" at its CES 2023 showcase and installed it on the IONIQ 5 electric vehicle.
It only shows that different vehicles may get diagonal or horizontal driving capabilities with tweaks to their wheelbase and steering.
Mobis already revealed this venture in 2021 via a press release, and it showed its initial plans to develop 90-degree rotating wheels to improve a car's mobility. Less than two years later, Hyundai and Mobis were able to share it with the world, boasting of their capabilities in their demonstration video with different maneuvers.

According to the company, the e-Corner System is capable of doing turns like crab driving, also known as the side-to-side or horizontal drive, the zero-turn, where it stays on a fixed spot and can turn on a 360-degree angle, diagonal driving, and pivot turns.
There are many applications for crab walk systems and may be used in different variations depending on a user's need, as it claimed at CES 2023. Mobis said that it will be available by 2025.
Crab Walk and its Features
One of the most iconic features of the clean energy pickup truck from General Motors is its crab walk, and it is a system that was recently introduced to vehicles to deliver a different maneuver for its owners. It centers on different feats for the vehicle including diagonal driving, pivotal turns, side-to-side movements, and other capabilities.
Additionally, the crab walk features a different setup for cars, particularly with the four-wheel steering that will allow drivers to also turn the wheels at the rear. It may be somewhat unnatural and uncommon for cars, but modern technology helped make this possible, and it centers on better maneuverability and more options for drivers who are in tight spots.
While GM is massive in its crab walk features, it is not the only car manufacturer that developed the four-way steering capabilities of modern vehicles. Hyundai and its Mobis subsidiary have successfully developed its e-Corner system which it first unveiled at CES 2023, and intended to show the world the future of driving.
