Elon Musk Breaks a Guinness World Record After Losing $100 Billion in 2022

The Tesla CEO and Twitter Chief Twit is no longer the wealthiest man in the world.

Elon Musk broke a new Guinness World Record after his personal fortune reportedly plummeted by roughly $100 billion last year, or in 2022 to be more exact.

The Guinness World Records organization announced that Musk now holds the world record for the "largest loss of personal fortune in history.

Elon Musk Guinness World Record

As per a report by Business Insider, Musk broke a new world record. But instead of achieving a milestone he could be proud of, he sets a new Guinness World Record after losing billions of dollars last year.

The tech billionaire now holds the record for the "largest loss of personal fortune."

Largest Loss of Personal Fortune in History

The Guinness World Records confirmed that Musk "has officially broken the world record for the largest loss of personal fortune in history."

The global organization cites the recent estimate by Forbes, which claims that the tech entrepreneur has lost about $182 billion since November 2021. However, the organization notes that he might have lost more than that, roughly $200 billion.

Some might be curious about who is the previous record holder before Musk. Guinness states that the losses of the Tesla boss appear to have significantly surpassed the previous figures of the Japanese tech guy, Masayoshi Son.

The latter reportedly lost around $58.6 billion in 2000. So the estimated

figures for Musk are way ahead of the Japanese investor.

No Longer the Wealthiest Man in the World

Musk, who owns tech giants like Tesla and SpaceX, was once heralded as the "wealthiest man in the world," second to none in terms of riches. After, his EV firm is the most valuable carmaker in the world, surpassing the Japanese automaker, Toyota.

But this time, after losing billions of dollars, he sits behind other wealthy figures. Despite this, Tesla remains on top, still outperforming the value of its closest rival.

Guinness says that the founder of the luxury giant Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy (LVMH) Bernard Arnault is now the wealthiest man in the entire world. The French billionaire flaunts an estimated net worth of $190 billion.

Meanwhile, the SpaceX founder's net worth is down to $138 billion as of writing. It is a significant decrease from its peak of $320 billion in 2021.

Aside from setting a new world record, the American-African entrepreneur also lost his "wealthiest man" title.
