#TechCEO: Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares Wants to Meet Customers' Expectations by Electriying All Maserati Models

It's about time for the EVs to overtake the world and Carlos Tavares knows how to do that.

Electric cars are almost everywhere and they have become the modern faces of the vehicle industry at present. The luxury car brands are gradually embracing the trend to adjust to the needs of their customers when it comes to something like this.

Carlos Tavares, the boss behind Maserati, an Italy-based automaker has finally realized the importance of electrification for the existing car models.

Because of this, he wants to push Stellantis to reach new heights of discovery by venturing into something that's new and useful.

According to the official website of Stellantis, Tavares graduated from Ecole Centrale de Paris as an engineer. He was born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1958.

His mother was a French teacher while his father used to work as an accountant to an insurer. Near his birthplace, he discovered something that already piqued his interest: his passion for motor racing.

At the age of 14, he grew curious about how race cars operate. He used to watch them at the Estoril circuit where it all started. From here, he continued to reach his dreams until he held several positions in an automobile firm.

Before he became Stellantis CEO, he served as a member of the Managing Board of Groupe PSA on January 1, 2014. He also worked with the Renault Group from 1981 to 2004.

Later, he went to Nissan and became the Executive VP. In 2009, he was assigned to be the President of Nissan North America. A year later, he served as Renault's Chief Operating Officer until 2013. Apart from that, he also became one of ACEA's (European Automobile Manufacturers' Association) board of directors.

Maserati Electrification

Most customers know that a good brand won't risk hurting the environment just for the sake of their profit. However, that's not true in some cases since false advertising sometimes ruins these promises.

For Tavares, promoting a good product should come with careful consideration especially when it's about environmental protection.

"Wealthy customers are very sensitive to brands, and they believe their lifestyles should be protecting the planet. It's a trend we can easily see and measure. So we will offer them escape from that pressure," Tavares said via Penta.

In the next decade, Tavares thinks that the batteries would undergo huge changes when it comes to their size, efficiency, and energy density. He sees that this would come for the future generation of EVs.

While Tavares acknowledges Tesla's strong presence in the US, he does not encourage other companies to embrace the plan of offering Tesla charging across the country. He adds that automakers will avoid such dependence from another competitor in the industry.

For now, Tavares confirmed that all Maserati models will benefit from electrification. The company is expected to offer 75 all-electric models between 2022 and 2030.

Last Jan. 5, Tavares delivered a keynote address in front of the crowd in Las Vegas. The discussion talks about the Ram 1500 Revolution Battery EV concept and the Peugeot Inception Concept. It focuses on Stellantis' aim to bring affordable, clean, and safe EV to everyone.
