Delta Air Lines Announces Major In-flight Upgrades, Including Free WiFi, Smart Screens on All Flights at CES 2023

Delta Air Lines introduces more connected, personalized flight experience.

Delta is returning to CES in 2023 to highlight the importance of human connection and demonstrate how the airline is leveraging the power of people, personalization, and innovation to create a more connected travel experience and sustainable world.

On January 5, Delta CEO Ed Bastian joined MediaLink CEO Michael E. Kassan on stage at the conference to discuss how consumer brands like Delta are using technology to better understand and serve their customers by providing tailored experiences.

Connected Fly Miles

Talking about harnessing the power of human connections and innovations, Delta CEO Ed Bastian has some extremely exciting news about in-flight connections. With these new announcements, Delta Air Lines' already advanced lineup of technological features received a boost.

Long flights, as the CEO accurately highlighted, may be extremely tedious and dreary for many people. Bastian intends to change that by incorporating features that were previously thought to be unachievable in commercial planes. The CEO even mentions how he intended to transform "dumb screens" on planes.

"It is imperative all customers onboard can enjoy their favorite content just as they would at home, and we've put this system through meticulous tests to make that possible," Bastian claims.

Delta Air Lines announced today that it is adding free WiFi to all of its flights. The service, which was previously only available on select flights, will now be extended to all Delta planes.

In addition to free WiFi, Delta has also announced a partnership with T-Mobile to offer in-flight texting and data service. Delta has also teamed up with Paramount+, American Express, Atlas Obscura, and the New York Times to offer a range of entertainment options on its flights.

The airline is also upgrading its in-flight screens to become "smart screens," which will allow passengers to access a wide range of content, including movies, TV shows, and games. Delta has a fleet of over 150,000 seatback screens, which will all be upgraded as part of the initiative.

Delta Sync Launch

Delta Air Lines has introduced Delta Sync, a new brand for its software, connectivity, and in-flight digital content. Using its mobile app and new airport experiences, the business hopes to provide a more personalized travel experience that is tied to a customer's SkyMiles account.

Delta's optional facial recognition-based boarding system, which is already being tested in Atlanta and Detroit, as well as free WiFi and new entertainment options available solely to SkyMiles members, are among the new features.

Delta Sync on Demand will offer a personalized seatback entertainment system similar to a smart TV, as well as the ability to order food and drinks in first-class, plan trips, get suggestions for content to watch, and get real-time alerts.

Delta has plans to expand the service globally, making it available on all of its international flights as well. The airline is dedicated to enhancing the in-flight experience for its passengers.
