Elon Musk announced that the Tesla Autopilot Steering Wheel "Nag" disable option is finally seeing the light of day this January.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tesla, Musk, says a new update for the Autopilot is coming this month.
Tesla Autopilot Steering Wheel Nag Disable Option Coming This January
As per a recent report by Tesla North, the Tesla Autopilot currently nags its users with a message saying "apply slight turning force to the steering wheel."
Given that, the message is aptly dubbed as the Autopilot "nag." Tesla North says it should help folks behind the wheel to pay attention to the road. On top of that, it also keeps drivers awake as they would have to "apply slight turning force" from time to time.
Tesla says that "Autosteer requires you to hold the steering wheel." And as such, "if it does not detect your hands on the steering wheel for a period of time, a flashing blue light appears at the top of the car status section of the touchscreen, and the following message displays."
But despite that, some Tesla owners have found a way to bypass the nagging message. Some Autopilot users reportedly bought "defeat devices" to overcome it.
It is worth noting that the carmaker currently does not provide an option to disable the "nagging" feature.
This time, the Musk-led EV maker plans to create a new option that disables the Autopilot "nag" altogether.
Elon Musk Says New Update Brings Disable Option
No less than the big boss of Tesla revealed that the giant EV maker is working to bring a new option for the Autopilot Steering Wheel "Nag" that allows users to disable it.
A Twitter user that goes by the name Whole Mars Catalog tweeted that "users with more than 10,000 miles on FSD Beta should be given the option to turn off the steering wheel nag."
The recent tweet, posted on the last day of 2022, mentions the Chief Twit, Musk. The Tesla boss then responded positively to the suggestion.
The chief exec says an update bringing an option to turn off the steering wheel "nag" is coming this month.
Musk wrote, "Agreed, update coming in Jan."
Given that, Tesla owners might start getting their hands on the disable option for the steering wheel nag in the next couple of days.
When it starts rolling out, Autopilot users could start enabling hands-free driving without purchasing any "defeat devices."
