French Phone Company Wiko Launches a Huawei Rebranded Device in China

The French company Wiko is trying to conquer the Chinese market.

For years, Chinese smartphones have been a worldwide phenomenon, dominating market share and customer choices in several countries. Recently, however, an old French brand has returned to the scene with a surprising announcement: Wiko has come back and is aiming to conquer the Chinese market.

According to the story by Giz China, Wiko 5G is trying to succeed in China. Wiko is a French company owned by Tinno mobile, a Chinese mobile phone manufacturer.

The Wiko 5G is a rebranded Huawei Nova 9 SE, and it does not have many noticeable differences from the original model. The most prominent change is the Wiko branding and its 5G support.

US Sanctions have Resulted in a Roadblock for Huawei to Use Its 5G Technology on Different Devices

Because of recent US sanctions, Huawei has been unable to use 5G technology on its phones. The Wiko 5G's compatibility with 5G is a big selling point for foreign and domestic consumers.

In terms of design, the Wiko 5G is identical to the Huawei Nova 9 SE, with a 6.78-inch LCD screen and a 120 Hz refresh rate. However, the phone does come in four different color options.

Wiko 5G Specs Revealed: The Device Runs on Huawei's Harmony OS

The Wiko 5G has a punch-hole in the front for the 16 MP selfie snapper camera. Regarding hardware, the device is powered by a Snapdragon 695 SoC and comes in two size options: 128 GB or 256 GB of storage with 8 GB RAM, as further highlighted in an article by GSM Arena.

Finally, the phone runs Huawei's HarmonyOS and will come with a 4,000 mAh battery and 66W wired charging. This means that users will effectively be able to charge their devices from zero to 60% in the span of just 15 minutes or fully charge their devices in just 35 minutes in total.

The Wiko 5G is Expected to Cost Less than $500 at Just a Little Over $300

The Wiko 5G is set to retail at CNY $1,999 (approx. $287) in the base option and CNY $2,199 (approx. $315) for the higher tier version.

Considering the Chinese market's size and existing competition, it is difficult to predict if Wiko will be successful. However, the brand's rebranded Huawei Nova 9 SE seems well-equipped for the challenge. With its attractive design qualities, powerful hardware, and 5G compatibility, the Wiko 5G looks ready to dominate domestic and international customers.
