Apple has a reliable suite of features to help with accidents, but when that does not work because one does not own an iPhone 14, there are still other options available. In a crash after the recent Christmas celebration of a family in California, the Find My app brought its services that helped in locating an unresponsive family member involved in a car accident.
While some users do not prefer the Find My app to avoid unnecessary tracking from family members or crazy ex-partners, it still proves to be a useful tool for emergencies.
Apple's Find My Helps Unreported California Car Accident
According to the San Bernardino Country Fire department, a recent accident on its roads that resulted in a car falling 200 feet down a steep hill sees help from family members using Apple's Find My app.
In the driver's case, while they own an iPhone, it did not have the feature to detect car crashes and call emergency services for their needs.
However, family members were quick to act on this Christmas night, ingeniously using the Find My app to locate their unresponsive kin. With the app, they were able to find their location and saw that it is stalled at their last reported place.
This urged the family to call on emergency services to help and check up on those involved in the accident, only to find that they have been in an accident.
Apple's Car Crash Detection Feature
According to MacRumors, the victim presumably did not have the latest iPhone 14 to help in reporting these kinds of events as it did not have the feature. Despite this, the family was still able to track their location and send first responders their way.
Apple's Car Crash Detection feature is available on the latest iPhone 14 and Apple Watch only, with the company aiming to optimize it better for future applications and needs.
Apple's Accident Features
One of the best features of the iPhone 14 lineup now is it allows people to detect car crashes of their own and those in the area, under the iOS 16 system for the devices.
With the many tech features available on different devices now, accidents also see a highlight, especially in helping its owners get the fastest response there is, instead of relying on one's self or others to make the call.
However, there were reports that there are "false alarm" notifications made by the iPhone 14 and iOS 16 in detecting car crashes which have been an issue for some time now.
Given that the iPhone and its system are new releases from the company, it gives rescuers and emergency services a hard time doing their tasks.
Different accidents require various responses from professionals, but they need the right call for their service, and it is something that Apple needs to work on for now. But when all else fails, Find My may help in this situation, with family members' vigilance helping save the life of their loved ones when met with unfortunate incidents.
