This has been confusing many people across the globe since some of them believe that the toilets in airplanes will dump poop and urine straight down while flying.

Garrett (flywithgarrett), a pilot who creates TikTok content videos, finally answered this question.

If you are among the people who are curious to find out, here's what Garrett shared in his viral TikTok video.

It amassed over 320,000 likes and 1,300 comments.

In the video, Garrett clarified that the airplane doesn't dump waste down the ground when passengers flush toilets.

"Did you know that whenever you flush the toilet on an aircraft it actually doesn't dump out into the population down below?" said the TikToker.

Instead, the pilot explained that the toilet wastes go through plumbing to the aircraft's rear part. After that, these wastes will be contained in sealed compartments.

Once the airplane lands, only then will the crew remove the waste.

Fun Facts About Airplane Restrooms

Airplanes' restrooms are among the most important innovations created to improve passengers' experiences.

The very first toilet was installed back in 1975. Since it has been years ever since the first CR was integrated, here are some fun facts provided by Mental Floss, about airplanes' restrooms that you didn't know about:

  • Back in 1937, a British airplane just dumped human waste on the ground. Because of this, the Supermarine Stranraer was nicknamed the "whistling sh*t House."
  • Airplane passengers in the 1930s used boxes as their toilets.
  • Back in the 1980s, frozen poop has been a problem. This happens when tank housing leaks liquid waste into the sky. After that, this frozen poop will fall to the ground, causing damage to cars and houses.
