Blackmagic's DaVinci Resolve editing software is now live on the Apple iPad app store.
In October, Tech Times reported that DaVinci Resolve, a well-known professional video editor, will be coming to the Apple M2 iPad Pro. Now, DaVinci Resolve for iPadOS, which brings desktop-level tools for iPad video editing, is finally out on the App Store after two months of development.
As long as you're using an M1 or M2 iPad Pro, 9to5Mac reports that DaVinci Resolve for iPad is equally as competent as its desktop counterpart now that it is available on the App Store. The 2GB video editing and color grading app works with iPads running iPadOS 16 and later and is equipped with the A12 Bionic chipset or later.
Davinci Resolve on Apple iPad: Features, Availability
Blackmagic, the makers of DaVinci Resolve, claims that the software will deliver 4x quicker Ultra HD ProRes rendering on the new iPad Pro with M2, with other similar improvements coming to M1-based iPads. The app is specifically designed for the new M2 iPad Pro, according to GSM Arena.
DaVinci Resolve has become one of the renowned editing software due to its cutting-edge AI processing thanks to the DaVinci Neural Engine. With this feature, a single stroke is all it takes for tools like the magic mask to find and track persons, features, and objects in a photo. In a shot with poor lighting, you can stylize the background and reverse the person's mask to make the characters stand out.
Additionally, the features DaVinci Resolve offers on the iPad are almost identical to those available in the desktop version. These include the most used in-app features, such as the Cut Page, Source Tape, Fast Review, Sync Bin, and others that fall under this category. In addition to 3D trackers and HDR support, there are options to change the contrast, temperature, mid-tones, and saturation of videos.
Is Davinci Resolve on Apple iPad Worth It?
Mac Rumors reports that DaVinci Resolve Studio, which adds a number of premium features above the default program, is an in-app purchase that costs $94.99 for a one-time purchase.
However, with such a high price, interested creatives may be wondering if purchasing DaVinci Resolve on the iPad is worth it or if they should just stick with editing on PC.
In terms of compatibility, the DaVinci Resolve app has been modified to work with the iPad's touch interface. However, if you'd prefer a more familiar experience, you can still connect an external keyboard and mouse. The iPad app also features common tools from its desktop counterpart, such as app-color correction, cloud collaboration, AI-based magic masks, voice isolation, and more.
On the iPad app, users may also import already-existing DaVinci Resolve 18 projects from their desktop accounts. Although the user interface has been fully modified for the iPad's touch screen, it still appears very recognizable to those who have used DaVinci Resolve on desktop platforms. Users can import already-existing projects or start new ones in DaVinci Resolve 18. Blackmagic Cloud is also supported for multi-user collaboration.
To answer the question of whether or not DaVinci Resolve is worth it on the iPad, however, if you are a creative who wants the option to carry your workspace to different locations, then having the app handy on a flexible device could prove useful for you.
