Tesla Model Y Suddenly Shuts Down

British YouTuber Tom Exton tweeted that his five-day-old Tesla ordered him to pull over, as it suddenly shut down on the road despite being fully charged and having just been driving for about 15 minutes. Exton stated during his interview with Business Insider that within minutes, "all power to the car was gone."

Since the doors on Teslas need power to open or close the vehicle, he used the emergency manual override latch on the door to exit but failed as it somehow broke the driver's window. This caused the driver to be trapped inside the vehicle for hours.

The YouTuber expressed his frustrations on Twitter and said that he had to wait more than two hours for assistance to arrive, while it took six hours for the vehicle to be retrieved. He was left inside the dark in the pitch black with freezing temperatures and a dying phone battery.

Tesla's Response

Independent Journal Review reported that Exton was offered a hotel room for the night after waiting for more than two hours on the road, although he was not offered a courtesy vehicle while his vehicle was being repaired.

"Just relieved (my) gf/dogs are not with me. In minus 3, middle of nowhere. Been 2 hours so far waiting for AA. There's a reason they punted so many out the door on cheap lease deals. Do yourself a favor and get a Polestar. Or anything other than a Tesla," he added.

Previous Incidents

Exton runs a YouTube channel called TGE TV with 242,000 subscribers. His content revolves around his car collection that are mostly sports cars. Because of his huge following, Exton's tweets were seen by his 34,000+ followers, which made other Tesla owners share similar experiences in the past.

Last May, a Tesla owner had to break his Model Y's window because of a fire accident. He decided to do this since he didn't know how to manually open doors from inside as the power completely went down.

Fortunately, the man survived. These can lead to injuries or deaths, especially if someone in the same scenario does not have enough strength to break their car's windows.
