Fogged-up glasses are obviously annoying, but this nano-thin layer of gold vows to keep your vision clear.
Apart from being pretty frustrating, glasses clouded with fog could also be risky. After all, it might prevent you from seeing what is ahead of you.
Given that, some folks remove their eyewear. But in the first place, these glasses are there to help them see clearly. Yet, with fog invading its lenses, it does otherwise.
So the best thing to do is to prevent fog from ruining your glasses.
Fogged-Up Glasses? This Nano-Thin Gold Promises to Keep Visions Clear
According to a recent news story by Engadget, this nanotechnology vows to ditch the annoying fog on glasses.
Besides being useful for eyewear, it could change everything for drivers as it could also keep windshield clear, at least in terms of fogging.
The researchers for ETH Zurich came up with a gold nano coating that ditches fogging on glasses. The nano-thin layer reportedly raises the temperature, heating it up to roughly 46 degrees Fahrenheit or 7.7 degrees celsius.
The folks behind the nano coating say that it absorbs infrared radiation to heat it up. And as such, it helps keep your glasses safe from fog even in humid weather.
The coating also comes with 10 nm thick layers of titanium oxide to intensify the heating capabilities. The nano-thin gold sits between them, which further helps protect it from unwanted wear.
Given that this technology uses gold, some might assume it would be pretty costly. However, the ETH researchers say that the glass coating only needs a small amount of gold.
In fact, Engdaget notes in its report that the layer is roughly a dozen times slimmer than a gold leaf. So it sure is thin and should not cost like jewelry.
However, this promising tech has yet to hit the stores. For now, we could prevent fogging using short term techniques.
How to Prevent Foggy Glasses from Blocking Your Vision
As per Healthline, there are several remedies to prevent the annoying clouding of your glasses.
However, it is worth mentioning that these fixes are only temporary. So you might have to do them again once in a while.
One solution for foggy specs is to wash your glasses in soapy water, preferably a mild detergent or a dishwashing liquid. Healthline notes that soap molecules create a coating that helps prevent fog.
Another option is an over-the-counter solution. The anti-fog lens spray works like magic. What's more, the anti-fog wipes in your local store should also do the job.
