Apple now blocks iOS 16.1 and iOS 16.1.1 downgrades for iPhone users after it has stopped signing these two older software versions.
Essentially, iPhone users and iPad owners, who are running the current iOS 16.1.2, can no longer go back to these versions.
Given that, if you are experiencing some bugs or other issues with the latest release, you might need to wait for the rollout of the upcoming iOS 16.2.
Apple iOS 16.1, 16.1.1 Downgrades Are Now Blocked for iPhone Users
As per the latest news story by 9to5 Mac, Apple has stopped signing two previous versions of iOS. The latest move of the tech giant prevents iPhone and iPad users from downgrading to either iOS 16.1 or iOS 16.1.1.
Version 16.1 first saw the light of day back in October. It offered a couple of new features, along with bug fixes. The update introduced new offerings like Fitness+ and iCloud Shared Photo Library to iPhone years.
On the other hand, Apple dished out iOS 16.1.1 last November. But it is not as big as the 16.1 release. Instead, it brought some necessary refinements in security and overall stability.
In the same month, the iPhone maker started rolling out iOS 16.1.2. It is now the latest version of the mobile operating system. The update comes with a much-awaited iPhone 14 feature, none other than the Crash Detection Feature.
Now, the renowned tech giant stopped signing the two previous versions before the latest iOS release.
So if you are looking to downgrade your iPhone to these versions, you are out of luck.
Are iPhone Users Stuck with the Latest Version?
Users are not entirely stuck with iOS 16.1.2. 9to5 Mac reports that iPhone users could still go back to iOS 15.
So if you are grappling with serious issues in the latest update, you might want to consider ditching new features in favor of iOS 15. If the problem is a bit bearable, do note that iOS 16.2 is on its way.
What to Expect with the Upcoming Update
According to a recent report by Mac Rumors, the new iOS version is likely to roll out next week.
This new update brings several new offerings. iOS 16.2 is providing the Apple Music Sing and end-to-end encryption to iCloud, to name a few.
Not to mention that it also brings bug fixes.
