Telegram Introduces Blockchain-Focused Features on the Platform: Phone Number Auction, Auto-Delete Timer, and More

Telegram users could purchase usernames on the platform soon.

Telegram and other messaging apps will require a user to log in through their phone number. This is an imperative requirement so the platform will confirm the owner's legitimacy.

However, Telegram appears to be changing the game for the signups since it confirms that the future process will require the user to use the service even without a SIM card.

According to a report by XDA Developers, Telegram has a special auction where people can buy "rare" usernames from a blockchain-based platform based on TON.

The blockchain-powered numbers will serve as your key to signing up on your Telegram account. Of course, there's a caveat in this new feature: you have to purchase the anonymous number before you acquire and register it on Telegram.

This feature is very important for people who are dubious about their privacy when using phone numbers for the small price they have to pay.

When it comes to profile sharing, the new Telegram update will let the users make their own QR code. It's scannable by anyone on the platform. With this, adding everyone on your contact list is now more convenient and there's no need to know your phone number before someone adds you.

Auto-Delete, Anti-Spam Mode, Expanded Topics in Telegram 9.2

In another report by Android Police, Telegram 9.2 brings Auto-Delete option along with a self-destruct timer for messages. To use this, just enable this option and instantly select all the chats you wish to remove.

Meanwhile, the messaging platform also improves Topics limit from 200 to more than 100 members. With the new update, more people can join a conversation in several group chats.

The default version of this feature is always accessible by anyone who belongs to the group. Of course, admins have upper hand when it comes to controlling the settings of the group. They can hide or rename a topic if they want.

Another thing to jot down about this update is the Anti-Spam mode which combats annoying spams inside the inbox. Aside from these features, Telegram users can now notice the fresh design for the Storage Usage page.

For Premium Telegram subscribers, the platform will now allow you to use over 10 custom emoji packs for meaningful conversations. The update also welcomes the interactive emoji which has an additional set of full-screen effects.

Indeed, Telegram is slowly transforming into a newly-improved app that can go toe-to-toe with Facebook and other instant messaging tools. Right now, it's exploring so many options for development following the launch of Telegram 9.2.
