Android Gives Google TV a Design Refresh: Part of 'Material You'

Google TV's app on Android is receiving a critically acclaimed overhaul to its look and design. With a Material You refresh originating on the Google platform, users of the application can expect to find a few changes that increase the UX and visuals of the app.

Google to Change Outdated Features in Favor for More Modern Features for the Google TV App

With the new update, Google will be changing many outdated features in favor of more modern ones. This will be evidently visible on the Google TV app as its design is expected to change with the update.

According to the story by Pocket Lint, At the top of the screen, a large search bar now replaces the small button of the former version, with additional buttons included to cast and switch accounts. Furthermore, at the base of the screen, tabs have been redesigned to a pill-shaped feature, giving it more clarity and making it easier for users to stay between tabs.

The First Major Noticeable Change is with the Background Color from Black to a Darkened Grey

Google has taken further steps to enhance the visuals of its app by altering the background color. Rather than the previous black, the platform has adopted a darkened grey, providing the app with more depth and eliminating the problem of items blending into the background.

The app is also introducing more responsive features, such as an expansive search function that can be activated at the top of the screen. Meanwhile, the switcher for Google accounts has received a makeover with new rounded corners, similar to the messaging feature.

Dynamic Color is Also Expected to be Included in a Later Update

The app's color scheme has additionally gone through a restructuring, with a lighter flare throughout the bottom bar. However, Dynamic Color will be included later as the update is still rolling out on a server-side basis.

More notably, the new navigation rail makes a much more modernized form of the app on tablets.

In conclusion, users of Google TV can expect a revamped refresh from the application with its Material You refresh, with more changes to come with the upcoming update. Whilst it hasn't been made available to all, the improved visuals, navigational elements, and responsive features will be worth the wait.

Google TV's color scheme has also been adjusted and now features a light gray background and dynamic color to provide more depth and differentiation. The app's background was previously black, according to 9to5google, while navigation elements were gray.

The new navigation rail is a great improvement for tablet users, supporting a more modern app experience. Google TV app users should keep an eye out for the new refresh, which is rolling out as a server-side update with version 4.37.20.
