The backlash against Apple is not stopping, with the fire that Twitter led the world on, now seeing new companies speaking out against the App Store policies with Meta and Spotify. The famous executives from both companies, Meta's Mark Zuckerberg, and Spotify's Daniel Elk, also have some strong sentiments against Apple.
The spark that started it all is with Twitter's Elon Musk who previously lashed out against the policies regarding its third-party payment options, centering on Chief Twit's Blue verification subscription.
Apple Takes Fire from Meta's Zuckerberg and Spotify's Elk
Apple is now seeing more companies that have issues with its App Store policies, with two prolific names in the industry being the social media company, Meta, and the media-streaming platform, Spotify.
At New York Times' DealBook Summit earlier today, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg expressed his opinions regarding the App Store policies, saying that the Cupertino giant is the only company that limits apps within its jurisdiction. Zuck further claims that its policies are not sustainable.
On the other hand, Spotify CEO Daniel Elk went on Twitter and created a thread that spoke out against Apple's App Store policies, with the company already filing a complaint against this four years ago. As per Elk, Apple is engaging in anticompetitive practices, further quoting Epic Games and Elon Musk.
Twitter Led the Charge, Meta and Spotify Follows
Twitter's recent complaints against Apple and Musk's previous posts against Apple sparked this outrage against Apple, with the past week seeing a lot of Chief Twit's sentiments against its App Store.
Now, more companies are joining hands with him, with Meta and Spotify also expressing their side on it, with Zuckerberg praising Google's Play Store on its options for developers and consumers.
Apple's App Store Policy and the Backlash
While Twitter was one of the most influential platforms which started the fire against Apple, it was originally Epic Games that led the revolution against the App Store policies regarding the payment options for all.
One of the most controversial moves of Epic Games is the "Nineteen Eighty-Fortnite" video against Apple, which talked about revolting against it.
It is known that Apple and Epic Games went on a lengthy trial which initially ended, with both companies not satisfied with the court's ruling regarding the case.
Elon Musk's latest issues with Apple center on the threat regarding Twitter's ban from the Apple App Store, with the famous social media platform initially seeing impending doom for all iOS users. While Musk was speaking up against Apple for a long time, it seems like it has invited like-minded companies who are also against these policies.
Now that the fire is starting against Apple, other companies joined the conversation, with some of the Big Tech also a part of this, with Meta and Spotify expressing their sentiments against it.
While Twitter already made amends with Apple, it seems like this is the only start for the likes of Meta and Spotify, with both's payment features still confined within the App Store's policies.
