Tesla is among the top best-selling electric vehicle (EV) brands in China, along with Chinese automakers like BYD and SAIC-GM-Wuling.
Not to mention that the Tesla Model 3 made it to the top 10 best-selling ranking of electric cars in the Asian country.
Tesla Takes Third Spot in China's Best-Selling EV Brands
As per the latest report by Inside EVs, the Elon Musk-owned all-electric car maker is one of the most sought-after car brands in China.
In fact, Tesla takes about 7.3% of the total sales of plug-in EV offerings in the Asian nation, making it the third best-selling car brand in the segment.
The renowned Chinese automaker, BYD, is second to none in market share for the plug-in car segment, Inside EVs reports. It reigns on top with a commanding 29.9% slice of the pie.
And on the second spot is the SAIC-GM-Wuling, taking roughly 8.6 percent share. Meanwhile, lagging behind Tesla is GAC, which got 4.6% of the market.
Chery and Geely got 4.4% and 3.7%, respectively, while Dongfeng took the ninth spot with a 3.5% share. Another non-Chinese car maker, Volkswagen, made it to the last spot with around 3.4% slice of the pie.
China Plug-In EV Sales Jumps by 70%
The plug-in EV sales in China remarkably shot up by roughly 75% last October. There are more than 500,000 new registrations under the said car segment, taking 31% of the total vehicle sales in the country.
The best-selling plug-in last October is the BYD Song Plus, which sold more than 56,000 vehicles for the said month.
The Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV takes the second spot, while the BYD Qin Plus got the third ranking. It is worth noting that BYD got the third to seventh spot.
On the other hand, GAC took two spots, the eighth and tenth respectively. What's more, the Tesla Model Y sits in the second to the last spot of the top ten rankings.
Tesla China Recall
Amid the popularity of Tesla in China, the regulator of the country has recently recalled thousands of its vehicles.
According to a report by Reuters, the Chinese regulator recalled over 80,000 Tesla EVs that were made in China for various issues.
For software issues, the giant EV maker recalled its Model X and Model S imported from September 25, 2013, to November 21, 2020.
On the other hand, around 10,129 China-made Model 3 sedans, produced from October 14, 2019, to September 26, 2022, have been recalled due to seat belt issues.
