Batteries wouldn't thrive without an insulating layer. The insulator will act as a protection for the positive and negative layers in case the unthinkable happens.

Oftentimes, a short circuit results in damaged batteries. In worst cases, a fire might take place when there is air in a particular place.

According to Android Headlines, iFixit says that the batteries differ with various charging levels. The case study shows that there's a 25% charged battery and a fully-charged battery. When a metal tool pierced through the latter the 100% battery gradually burst.

With that being said, the explainer wants us to know that the amount of charge has something to do with the exploding batteries.

In the video, the fully-charged battery erupted slowly. In some cases, the bursting of its part was caused by an object which penetrated it in contact.

It is recommended that before you give your smartphone to a repair shop, you should first discharge your battery. iFixit says it's the best thing you can do to avoid such incidents.

Batteries in smartphones and laptops are different. Discharging your phone's battery to 25% is an ideal way to do this. However, if you have a laptop and you want to discharge its battery, you don't need to resort to the same method. All you have to do is to make sure that you fully discharge it to avoid overheating risks.

It's also advisable to stop using the battery if you smell something unpleasant on your device. Immediately stop charging and remove it from your smartphone.

Just a friendly reminder to refrain from poking the Lithium-ion batteries in case you're curious about what's inside them. If discharging won't work as a solution, you need to properly dispose of them.
