In an interview with Nikkei Asia, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated that the company could weather the challenges brought by a lingering global economic downturn. The business executive also mentioned that Microsoft could continue its growth amid harsh economic conditions.
Microsoft and Cloud Business
Data from Statista showed that Microsoft generated US$63.4 billion from its productivity and business processes segment. Meanwhile, Microsoft recorded US$75.3 billion through its intelligent cloud segment.
It is worth noting that 2022 is also the software company's most successful year in terms of annual revenue.
But how can the company continue to have impressive numbers when the tech industry has been impacted by rising inflation and looming recessions? Nadella pretty much implies that they just keep it simple.
In the Nikkei Asia interview, the top official said that Microsoft does not have much in common with other big tech companies like Amazon and Google, whose businesses are "saturated."
According to IT market research firm Synergy Research Group, Amazon, Microsoft, and Google collectively control a staggering 76 percent of the enterprise cloud services market in the United States, a share that is steadily rising.
As a recession brought on by the Covid-19 recovery and the Russian invasion of Ukraine remains a possibility, the above said technological giants are continuing their expansion. But from what it looks like, Microsoft got it all figured out.
"There aren't that many businesses that are over $100 billion [in annual revenue], growing at that rate in an economic environment like this," the Microsoft CEO said.

The business executive has emphasized that the cloud business, which accounted for a big chunk of its annual revenue in the last few years, is "situated for more growth."
Cloud Business Growth
Following Microsoft Cloud results for the quarter that ended September 30, Intelligent Cloud revenue was $20.3 billion, up 20%, with server products and cloud services revenue increased by 22%.
Microsoft's July-September results also revealed slowing growth, with sales increasing 11% to $50.1 billion and operating income increasing 6% to $21.5 billion.
Nadella pointed out that, despite inflation indicators being most felt in July and September, Microsoft's cloud business sales continue to increase.
According to Nadella, the company's cloud business segment increased by more than 30% year on year after adjusting for foreign exchange effects.
Nadella notes that the strength of Microsoft's cloud business is its ability to offer a wide range of products to businesses in a single package and under one name, including infrastructure services like Azure and business chat service Teams.
Cloud computing has become an essential component of modern business. Companies rely on data to make decisions. They also require top-tier security modules to protect devices and ensure that employees are able to work together and communicate all over the world. All of these functions are provided by the cloud's power.
