Owners of the flagship LG G3 will soon receive a sweet treat in the form of Android 5.0 Lollipop. LG USA tweeted that the Lollipop update is coming soon to the LG G3.
When Google releases a new version of Android, the first smartphones and tablets to receive the software update are the company's Nexus devices. It typically takes several months for Android licensees like Samsung, HTC, Motorola, and LG to repackage the latest version of Android to play nicely with its hardware and software customizations, like Samsung's TouchWiz and HTC's Sense UI.
Knowing that many consumers are now basing part of their smartphone or tablet purchase on the likelihood of receiving timely updates to the latest version of Android, we've seen more and more manufacturers release statements promising a software update and in some cases providing a timeline. In June 2014, HTC announced that it would release Android 5.0 Lollipop to its flagship HTC One M8 and One M7 within 90 days of Google officially releasing the update and it has kept its word. Owners of other HTC smartphones can take a look at this Android 5.0 Lollipop update schedule that recently leaked.
Now that Android 5.0 Lollipop is beginning to make its way to several flagship smartphones, owners of the LG G3 in the U.S. will be happy to know that they'll receive the software update very soon. LG USA Mobile took to its Twitter page and posted the message, "Introducing Lollipop: a sweet treat for your #LGG3" The image shows "Coming Soon" spelled out using lollipops with message below it stating, "Life with your LG G3 is about to get sweeter."
While LG didn't give a concrete release date, the company did respond to a user on Twitter that inquired about when to expect it, saying "very soon." As always, we'll keep you posted once we hear any additional details on the LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update.
