Did you know that you can turn an iPhone into an AR headset? CNET's Scott Stein talked about his experience when HoloKit showed him how this is possible.
The HoloKit X uses various iPhones for their built-in AR capabilities that can create head-up images. The latest concept of Holokit is now ready to work because of how advanced devices are.
HoloKit X works with hand tracking, which allows users to hold their hands out to touch the 3D object. Then, the headset will trigger the iPhone to vibrate, which will make users get buzzing feedback. In addition, the headset is said to be capable of doing full-movement tracking via the iPhone cameras.
The headset works nothing more like a phone holder that is combined with an angled reflective visor that mirrors the iPhone display. The phone automatically orients and connects to the goggles via NFC, and an exposed strop of the display above the top edge of the goggles works like a touch display that enables users to launch or exit apps.
The elastic headband on the goggles is comfortable and can even fit well over eyeglasses without having to worry too much about the pressure.
HoloKit X App
Currently, the HoloKit X apps will be available in the App Store by the end of the month but will only come with nine experiences. Furthermore, the app-like Realties could be played with by several people at the same time with other headers or with their phones via the app.
In addition, the app can record and share a video that layers AR effects with people to create mixed reality, which is hard to create on other AR headsets.
More AR Headsets to Come Soon
Holokit's isn't the first or the only company that's helping us to have fun with AR. Many new companies are planning to bring virtual reality and AR headsets for commercial use.
Nevertheless, Holokit X already has many improvements compared to other AR headsets, and it can even be a great gadget to buy. However, it can be sturdier and works flawlessly as well.
For VR, users will have to wear headsets, which will make them less interactive with the real world. On the other hand, AR headsets can almost mix the real world with the virtual one. In the near future, AR technology will make gaming more popular among people of all ages.
Moreover, it is said that this technology will make app developers create a lot of new exciting apps and experiences.
The Holokit X is perhaps one of the most futuristic gadgets that are available today, but it still could use improvements. However, it will also be fun to use. We can't wait to see what other companies will create in the near future.
