The sudden Twitter takeover last month has resulted in hundreds of users fleeing from the platform. Some people could not accept the fact that Elon Musk is the new owner of the 16-year-old social media site.
Amid the controversial acquisition, several users are complaining about some problems they experience when generating two-factor authentication codes via SMS.
Some netizens think that these glitches are never-ending and it's connected to the mess that Musk brought to the microblogging platform.
Twitter Two-Factor SMS Authentication Problem
According to WIRED's recent report, many users on Twitter said that their accounts got locked after they attempted to access 2FA codes through SMS.
As per other users who vented out their concerns on social media, they could not receive texts in the meantime. If they receive an SMS, they have been delayed for hours.
Aside from that, some users wrote that they could not tweak the security settings of the app. For people who want to save their stuff on Twitter, downloading the data won't work in this dire hour.
Somehow, it suggests that Twitter's infrastructure is slowly crumbling down to the core after Elon announced the new policies that will be rolled out soon.
Of course, not all Twitter users are experiencing the same problem with SMS authentication codes. Those with authentication apps on their smartphones could not see any problems for some reason. It appears that the affected users are desktop users.
Is Twitter Disabling Some Features?
Following the recent layoff of about 3,700 Twitter employees, some social media experts think that the platform's features have changed a lot.
Some reports noted that Musk was instructing his staff to disable some parts of Twitter, including its features. At that time, a report about the bloatware switch-off was spotted. Elon said that Twitter needs to exert more effort in removing unnecessary loads on the platform.
Wired also reported that the communications department of Twitter is no longer functioning. When they asked the company about the glitchy SMS 2FA codes, Musk did not answer back.
"Temporary outage of multifactor authentication could have the effect of locking people out of their accounts. But the even more concerning worry is that it will encourage users to just disable multi-factor authentication altogether, which makes them less safe," Open Crypto Audit Project co-director Kenneth White said.
The security engineer added that it remains difficult to determine the root cause of the buggy two-factor authentication codes.
For the past years, Twitter has been consistently solving issues regarding its 2FA system. Two years ago, the support team of the platform reported that the verification codes could not be delivered via SMS.
A few days later, the company announced that they were already resolving the problem.
Twitter is in shambles with this kind of maintenance for two-factor authentication. If the microblogging site wants to attract more users to the platform, there's a need to improve its security features for every user.
Meanwhile, XDA Developers reported that Twitter will no longer include source labels to tweets after removing the bloatware.

To enable multi-factor authentication codes on Twitter, just head to the Settings and Support section and click Settings and Privacy. Then, go to Security and Account Access and tap Security. You will finally see the Two-Factor Authentication.
The last thing you need to do is to disable the Text Message and switch on the Authentication app.
