Volvo debuts its first-ever electric vehicle (EV) truck that sports "fossil-free steel."
It comes shortly after the giant Swedish truck maker started the production of its electrified truck offerings.
Volvo's First EV Truck with 'Fossil-Free Steel'
As per the latest news story by Electrek, Volvo Trucks announced that its all-electric trucks are taking a step further at being more sustainable than ever. The EV trucks of the Swedish automaker have begun rocking fossil-free steel in their heavy-duty body.
The EV-focused news outlet notes that Volvo is trying to be more sustainable than ever, which should also help the overall transportation sector.
The Swedish truck maker began its journey when it introduced the Volvo FL Electric heavy-duty truck back in 2019.
And it turns out that the renowned automaker did not stop its journey to sustainability there. It also introduced another heavy-duty truck, the Volvo VNR Electric, in 2020. Electrek mentions in its report that it flaunts a better battery range.
And this time around, it looks like the giant truck maker is pretty serious about making these heavy-duty vehicles cleaner. The new all-electric truck of Volvo now comes with fossil-free steel.
The Senior Vice President of Product Management of Volvo Truck, Jessica Sandstorm, says that its new electric truck is part of its mission of net zero emissions.
Sandstrom reveals that their "journey to net zero emissions includes both making [their] vehicles fossil free in operation." But on top of that, the Swedish firm has plans of "fully replacing the material in [its] trucks with fossil-free and recycled alternatives."
Electrek reports that fossil-free steel is produced using both hydrogen and fossil-free electricity.
Heavy-Duty All-Electric Trucks Are On Their Way
According to a recent report by CNBC, Volvo Trucks has kicked off the production of its three new heavy-duty EV offerings.
The electric trucks include the Volvo FH, the Volvo FMX, and the Volvo FM.
The renowned automaker boasts that these EV offerings offer an impressive range. To be more precise, the FH and FMX all-electric heavy-duty trucks reach up to 320 kilometers (KM).
On the other hand, the Swedish firm touts that its electrified FM could run roughly 380 KM or more than 236 miles before it needs to recharge its battery, CNBC reports.
The production of these upcoming electric trucks has begun at the Gothenburg facility of Volvo in Sweden.
The President of Volvo Truck, Roger Alm, revealed that they have already "sold 1,000 units of these heavy-duty electrical trucks before the production start."
