This was more noticeable in the early 2000s and 2010s. Although the automotive industry transitioned to cooler designs in the 2020s, there are still some cars that have peculiar designs.

These include the futuristic 2022 Land Rover Defender, the bulky Hyundai Kona N, as well as the retro-inspired Hyundai Ioniq 5.

If you are wondering why carmakers tend to use unusual designs for their vehicles, there's a very simple reason.

As people tend to stay online, social media platforms are becoming low-cost marketing options for many carmakers.

But, standing out is not the only reason for weird car design gimmicks.

Experts stated that in the automotive industry, features and vehicle performances are not enough to earn market shares.

San Francisco University's 2014 study revealed that esthetics and design are among the factors that drive the vehicle purchasing decisions of consumers.

Most Peculiar Vehicles

When you say weird cars, many people will think about the Tesla Cybertruck and other newer versions. But, their designs are not that peculiar compared to older vehicles.

Designed by Asylum, a London-based company, the Pea Car is a very unusual vehicle since it has a sphere shape.

The 1999 Fiat Multipla may look like a normal vehicle at first. But, as you get closer to it, you will see that its design is similar to some deep-sea creators, such as the angler fish.

The Oscar-Mayer Wienermobile is perhaps among the weirdest cars you can see on the road. This is because it has a large hot dog at its top.
