Some Overwatch 2 players are expressing dissatisfaction with the fact that they are getting mass reported and even banned for choosing Doomfist as their character.
Doomfist was originally a Damage character in the first Overwatch game and was reworked as a Tank in the sequel. This results in a significant drop in his damage output and other changes to his equipment.
According to an article by ComicBook.com, this has also led to a widespread decrease in Doomfist's popularity amongst teammates. Some players who still choose the Tank character feel they are being penalized by Overwatch 2's automated report system for doing so.
Harassment to Doomfist Mains
Doomfist mains, or those who usually pick Doomfist, reported receiving harassment from their teammates because of their choice.
One Doomfist player took to the Reddit platform to post their experience. According to the player, they had enough teammates to report them, which triggered the game's automatic system. That person was banned for a month.
On the post, the player said, "It's been very frustrating for multiple reasons, and I can't wait until he gets any sort of buff in hops that it'll change [people's] perspectives towards him."
What Blizzard Is Doing so far
With each new season of Overwatch 2, further patches will be released, perhaps containing character buffs and nerfs. Game developer Blizzard has already said they aim to make changes with Doomfist moving forward.
The company previously confirmed that there would be upcoming adjustments to Zarya and Sombra's characters. With this, according to them, Doomfist's viability as a pick and his reputation among players may improve.
Blizzard wrote specifically about Doomfist in a blog post, saying that they are monitoring his performance and play rate compared to the other tanks in the game. They may continue to improve his Power Block and Meteor Strike in the next season of the game.
It said that each new season would feel more different and unique due to the updates when transitioning to the following season. They also expressed willingness to make further tweaks to balance the game if needed.
One thing is for sure; Blizzard wants their game to remain fair and enjoyable.
Doomfist Rework
Based on Gamespot's overview of Doomfist, changes made in Overwatch 2 have put him in an unusual situation.
He became a tank which gives him much greater health but weakened attack abilities to the point that you would have trouble dealing with most enemies.
The damage from his Hand Cannon is decent, but four shots are not enough to finish the job.
His Rocket Punch remains powerful if timed well, and a new ability speeds up charging time when using his defense skill.
Gamespot claimed that until Blizzard provides some adjustments and enhances his skills, Doomfist is not the greatest defensive tank on the field but is still playable owing to his combos.
