Tesla gives car enthusiasts a look at the Model Y's new multi-coat color, Quicksilver, after the long wait for new colorways.
The electric vehicle company run by Elon Musk finally gives car enthusiasts more options for the Model Y electric vehicle. Tesla first unveiled the model in 2019 and officially released it on the market in 2020.
However, since Tesla's decision to streamline its vehicles' color options, only a few options have been available to customers for years. Recently, however, CEO Elon Musk finally addressed the demand for new colors, revealing that the Model Y will be the first Tesla vehicle to get new color options, according to Electrek.
First Look at Tesla's Model Y New Colors: Quicksilver, Midnight Cherry Red
After the announcement of new color options, Tesla has been linked to the advanced paint shop at Gigafactory Berlin to add "more layers and stunning colors that subtly change with curvature", according to Not a Tesla App.
"Only Giga Berlin can make these colors, as the paint shop was specially built to apply many fine layers of paint, giving it complexity not otherwise possible." Musk initially explained the decision.
In March, Musk confirmed that the first two new paint options would be silver and red color. Finally, Tesla unveiled the colors Midnight Cherry Red and Quicksilver for the Tesla Model Y in a promotional video. The depth of the two colors results in different looks depending on the light, which is enabled by the multi-coat paint that Musk attributes to Giga Berlin.
Additionally, Tesla has brought the Quicksilver Model Y to the Zurich auto show in Switzerland, with Vision E Drive posting photos of the stunning colorway.
However, the two Model Y colorways are not yet available in Tesla's online configurator for the public to order since the Gigafactory in Berlin is currently the only one producing the Midnight Cherry Red and Quicksilver colors.
What About Other Tesla Model Y Color Options?
While fans are hyped up for the two new colorways, others are left wondering what happened to the other leaked options.
In 2021, Not a Tesla App reported that leaks from Tesla app updates circulated online, causing car enthusiasts to expect three new colors to be available for Tesla models, namely: Crimson Red, Mercury Silver Metallic, and Abyss Blue.
While the Crimson Red and Mercury Silver theories almost hit the mark for the upcoming Midnight Cherry Red and Quicksilver Model Y colorways, Electrek suggests that perhaps Abyss Blue may be the next possible colorway to be released.
However, car enthusiasts should still take this theory with a grain of salt as Tesla has not made any confirmations on whether it still plans to offer the speculated Abyss Blue in the future.
